Okay, I'm eighteen years old and have always had this problem with über-greasy and shiney skin. I've spent over $300 in the last two years on all types of skin care products to no avail. I'm recently trying Oxy Pads and Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. Thing is, nothing will clear it up. I was with soap and water twice daily and shower twice daily... I no longer wear power or liquid concealer. Usually an hour after I wash or two hours my skin gets greasy and shiney and generally feels gross. I'm very hygienic so I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I just wanted to suggest that you might be cleaning your face too often with too strong products. The thing is, if you overclean your skin it might react by overproducing oil and cause impurities.
I would suggest you change your routine and use a very mild cleansing product in the morning and a very light moisturiser. At night you can use a bit stronger type of cleanser, but not too strong. Avoid cleansing more than twice a day!
I don't really have any product suggestions, but some other board member with similar problems will certainly be able to help you! |

I totally agree, I think the problem is you are cleansing your face to often with to strong a product.
I have very oily skin but my forehead can at times be very dry. I use L'occitane soaps as it has 20% shea butter and is very moisturising.
My skin can shine for England after 30 mins of washing, and also at times it makes my fringe very greasy.
I also use Decleor Hydra-Matt Regulating Fluid which balances my skin perfectly.
A few times a week I use Essential Balm by decleor as this helps my congested skin.
I use Gatineau serenite cleanser and toner as this leaves my face feeling fresh and clean and mositurised.
Hope this helps a little. |

Maritza -- I can totally relate to your greasy/shiny skin and I'm 35 (so it's not going to go away as you get older)!! I sometimes feel that if scientists could find a way to refine the oil secreted on my face each day and convert for use into gasoline then America could relieve its dependence on OPEC to supply our gargantuan appetite for oil and petroleum products!!! I'm joking, but not by much.
However, I digress....
The absolute best thing I've found to help control the oily-shinys, and I've only discovered this recently after years of dropping loads of cash on overpriced products that don't do a damn thing, is Milk of Magnesia. Seriously!! You can get it at any drug or grocery store (in the laxative aisle), but be sure to buy the unflavored kind, because the flavors could cause irritation. Use the MoM twice a week as a mask to dry excess oil (wash your face with your regular cleanser, then slather on a layer MoM and wait until it dries -- typically 10-15 minutes -- then rinse it off with cool/cold water). Then, I also apply a very thin layer of MoM before putting on my makeup (I use Bare Essentials Bare Minerals powder foundation) to act as a mattifier (moisturize your face as normal, wait about 10 minutes, then spread a THIN layer of MoM and wait for it to dry, then put on your regular makeup). Normally, I have to start blotting the oil/shine from my face by 9am, but since I started using the MoM, I don't have to blot even once throughout the day.
So, that's my advice for those cursed with overactive oil glands on the face. I know it's not very "glamourous," but often the best solutions are the simplest. So before you waste another $300 dollars on other useless products, please give this a try -- it'll only cost you about $3.75US, a mucher cheaper skin-care experiment, wouldn't you say?!
Good luck...and hey, if you somehow DO stumble upon the holy grail product to control the oilys, please share with the rest of us!
