I have been using Bare Minerals for a year now and I love it and the way it makes my skin look, however, it causes little flakes to appear on my skin everywhere. I think this is probably due to the application with the brush buffing the skin. Does anyone else have this problem? And my skin is fairly oily and rarely ever gets dry on it's own - especially with my moisturizer. |

I have had that problem but only because my skin was dry. I have normal to oil skin but it does get dry from the weather. Maybe that could be your problem. I have tried this make up before and other mineral make up lines and the commonality for me was that my skin was dry. Maybe try a moisturizer, I am sorry I wasn't much help.
Good luck! |

I just gave up on powder MMU.... I've tried MANY brands and cannot get rid of the dryness problem. I have tried all the different application methods too (kabuki, flat top, spritzing,....) and could never get good results! Now I'm searching for a new liquid |

I haven't used Bare minerals, but I used other types of mineral make-up and yes, it makes my skin dry. I gave up on minerals for at least 2 months now. |

Have you tried a brand of mineral make up that doesn't contain bismuth oxychloride? BE has that ingredient and it doesn't agree with some people's skin. May cause some irritation. You can try the Lumiere brand.www.lumierecosmetics.com. They have two formulas which are not so drying. The Flawless Finish formula contains squalane oil which moisturizes. The Cashmere formula contains silk powder. Samples are very cheap. Check out their sample kit. These formulas need very little buffing. In fact, some people apply with a flocked sponge (which can also be purchased from them).
Most of the ladies I know who use mineral make up use a carrier oil as a primer (one or two drops patted on the face whilst damp from toner or hydrosol. Jojoba oil or emu oil are the most popular. Jojoba oil is preferred for oily and acne prones as it's less likely to cause breakouts. |

I'm 48. I use powder mineral make up.
Have you triedwww.ncnproskincare.com. They have a liquid mineral foundation with DMAE (for firming) that some members of this board have recommended. |

My skin just totally soaks up the mineral make up and it looks disguisting. I have very oily skin and after six months of convincing myself that it's not that bad I've finally given up.
Try and moisturise your skin very well before you put it on. |

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I break out so easily - my skin is just one of those acne-prone types and I thought I had found my "perfect" HG makeup, because I could literally sleep in this stuff and it never breaks me out and I've gotten so many compliments on my skin since I've worn it that I have a "glow" to my skin. It's a shame that these flakes have to be there. Although I don't use it that often. My skin doesn't really feel much dryer, but these flakes are visible. Maybe I will try that primer someone recommended. |

Hi Mermaid
I suffered the same problem and asked the advice of these wonderful gals on the forum. I got some helpful hints which i'll list below. I suffered the dryness/flakiness like yourself and it just seemed that my MMU was more prominent, it was sitting on the surface rather than looking like a second skin. Anyhow, here's some of the advice, which you may like to try:-
1. Try a different brand
I had only used lily lolo, but have got some EM samples after recommendations. So far, i think i DO prefer EM but there is not a huge difference. I know you mentioned you have tried a few brands though.
2. Try a primer first
I haven't tried this yet, only because i'm skint and couldn't afford to try every suggestion all at once. However, i believe that this can have a marked improvement
3. Use a flat topped brush rather than a kabuki
Again, not one i've tried yet as i've only just splashed out on a kabuki and can't justify another expensive brush just yet! But several people have claimed to have a better finish with a flat-topped brush
4. Use a finishing powder
At the moment, i'm trying to finish up my lily lolo flawless silk powder, although i'm going to try EM next - i have been recommended to try a start-to-finish rice powder they do
5. Use a small sponge to even out MMU
I've also tried this with some success. Once you're done, just lightly sweep a small make-up type sponge over your face. The idea is that you get rid of any built-up MMU in lines, creases etc. You're sort of flattening/evening out the finish if you like
6. Use a spritzer to "fix" your MMU
I've bought caudelie's beauty elixir which is full of essential oils and i spritz this over my finished face. I think it does make my skin look a little more dewy and it's easy to spritz this throughout the day when you need a top-up. i think any kind of spritzer will do
i have to say, i do still prefer the look of liquid make-up and i tend to still use liquid for special occasions, nights out etc. However, i really firmly believe in putting good stuff on my skin so i use MMU 90% of the time - day-time, at work, informal nights out etc.
Hope these are of use to you and that maybe some of the tips you haven't tried and may work for you.

Great advice Teabags! I hope it works.
If you go to Everyday Minerals, they have a forum there which will also give great advice (but I think Teabags has hit it all!!)...
I break out easily too so be careful with Everyday Minerals. I did like the product (although it took me MONTHS to figure out my color!!!)....however, once I ordered full sized I realized that it was clogging my pores (little bumps everywhere by the end of the day). (FYI - I was using the semi-matte and also tried the matte). The prices are great though so I'd get samples and see if you can make it work. Good luck! |

I forgot to mention...maybe I can't figure it out but when I spritz, I end up looking really gross
I think it may be because I have large pores...all I know is I end up looking worse than when I started ! |

I just bought the bare minerals and I've noticed bumps on my face. Has anybody else noticed this? It's made my face dry and flaky... I'm hoping that it'll go away after awhile. Is this wishful thinking? |

That was my problem with them...dryness, (which made fine lines look horrible!!), and bumps (clogged pores) and it didn't go away. I tried for about a year with different brands and have finally just given up. I've tried one organic liquid foundation but it provides no coverage...just seams to disappear after it settles. Hunt for my HG continues |

It's OK. You gave it a really good try. It obviously doesn't suit you. So you can move on. Trywww.makeupalley.com skincare board for suggestions. There are many clog-prone folk who post there. They may have some suggestions. For an "organic" brand, I read that Chantecaille has a nice liquid foundation but it's not easy to purchase.
For non-organic, Estee Lauder double wear light is a popular choice for people with acne-prone skin. |

I'm not a fan of BM but do love MMU. Bismuth does not agree with my skin at all. You could be having an issue with that. Also its really important to use a soft brush otherwise you can get alot of irritation from buffing alone.
I love Lumiere foundation and their brushes are also excellent. Meow Cosmetics is also nice. Both are bismuth fee. |

Even though I think Bare Escentuals is evil, I doubt that the makeup is causing it. Something that is important to do especially in winter is exfoliate. Get a good scrub with synthetic, small crystals (I like Cosmedicine's MediMophisis) and scrub, scrub, scrub (except on active acne) or try an AHA to chemically exfoliate. |

I've tried Philosophy and although it has a nicer coverage and a good glow on my face, it causes mild breakout on my face. I changed to BareMinerals now, seem to have an improvement, but my skin remains to be bumpy on the forehead, and when I use kabuki brush on there for maximum coverage, it turns out looking cakey and flakey... |
