I get this thing sometimes where my skin just has these sensations like a quick pinprick stinging sensation, like it will hit one area for half a second and then I feel it in another area for a second. Just all over and it is a bit different then an itch, although it can sometimes turn into an itch. Twice that I remember recently it happened after I showered and put these jeans on. I thought maybe it was the jeans, so I took them off rinsed off again and changed into new clothes and it went away. Then again I felt it, wondered if it was the jeans I put on, didn't rinse off again this time, just put on new jeans, and still felt it. So, I wonder if the cause maybe instead of reacting to something in the fabric, just because of dry skin. Can dry skin cause this? I asked my husband and he said he's never felt anything like that. My skin is very dry and I need to get in a habit of moisturizing my whole body, and drinking more water.

That's a good place to start. Also, in winter, it's tempting to shower in water that's too hot. That can, at least for me, make skin feel more sensitive and dryer.

My skin gets a lot drier and more sensitive during the winter. These two things sort of go hand-in-hand. I think random prickly sensations might just be your newly sensitive skin reacting to fabric textures and chemicals (like fabric softener). My skin is a lot less prickly and itchy and prone to irritation when it's hydrated and well-moisturized.

The best thing is to try increasing your water intake and use a heavier moisturizer (like a body oil) right after you shower when your skin is still damp.

I definitely think it's the dry skin that causes the problem. If you put on oil or lotion after a shower and massage it in well, it should lessen the sensation.

Try not to use foaming cleansers as they are particularly harsh and drying.

And I've found that taking flax seed oil supplements helps a lot too. I'm not as itchy this winter. You might want to give it a try
