I have been divorced for 5 years and last Spring found out my ex was only telling me about 1/10th of his income which affects his child support payments. We are scheduled to go to court in May but the cost of everything even up to this point has been devastating!

Plus no one can even tell me exactly what the amount he should be paying is as he has 3 corporations and it is valid that some money needs to stay in the companies to keep them running.

This is so hard for me to deal with and I have tried to keep it together because we have a 6 year old I need to look after but truly the cost has been devastating. I was already living paycheque to paycheque and renting out rooms in my home to students to make ends meet which, I find out, if my ex would have been paying the right amount of child support I wouldn't have had to do.

God, I am at a loss as to how to cope with this.

I am sorry to hear about it. The depression period will past and the sunshine always comes out after the deepest dark. Hope you get through the thing soon and you ex should payback.

Lily, I am deeply sorry to hear how this is for you.
Do you have the best lawyer that money can buy?
Prayers go out to you for you & your child.

If you live in Canada, it is extremely easy to get information about family court and child support guidelines and you should educate yourself as much as you can about family law. That way, you can make a wise decision. Having a lawyer would help.

I think my lawyer is good and we are scheduled for court at the end of May. Things are slow though as my ex takes his time handing over accounting/financial documents. That means we may not have everything we need in by when we need to for court. If court is postponed, it may not happen until 2010 so I am really pushing for us to still go to court even if all the documents are not in. (I might literally go insane if I need to wait until 2010 to get to court and have this resolved.)

If anyone has anytime to put in a prayer or two for me I would really, really be grateful- mostly that court happens in May and that it is a fair trial.

THANK YOU
