I have been using the Skinceuticals Vit C Serum 10. However I have not used the Skinceuticals B5 gel with it. I have been reading on this forum about the B5 gel and was wondering if it does anything other than hydrating. I wear a moisturizer and sun screen on top of the serum right now. My skin definetly looks much better after using the serum but I was wondering if the B5 gel is going to get me much better results. |

Hi there,
I also love the Vit C 15. I started to use the B5 gel because of the wonderful reviews here and also because my actual day cream was not enough hydrating. I feel that the B5 gives my skin a little more “life” to it and it absorbs very quickly by the skin. You should put your moisturizer and sun screen on top of the gel though.

Hi Sonu
I think the B5 is suppose to hydrate rather than moisturize - ie it plumps up your face making it smooth as it is a humectant (it attracts and holds the moisture underneath your skin). Your moisturizer is more a surface product, preventing moisture loss. I find that my face is more smoothen out with B5, but it should not replace your moisturizer unless you have oily skin.

I am also confused about the B5 gel. I keep reading that you should use it after a Vit C product and that it helps your moisturizer work better, but is there any special reason or major benefit in using it after the Vit C if your moisturizer already works great and your skin is moisturized? Hydration and moisturizer seem pretty much the same thing to me and I'm afraid that the explanation is just not clicking in my brain. I use the C&E serum and then use a really good moisturizer and then sunscreen over it. My skin is well moisturized by my moisturizer. Could one of you skin gurus or one of the Mods help me with this and clear it up for me so that I can understand it better? I don't know if it is a vital part of my skincare routine that I really need over my C&E or if it is more of an optional product depending on how much moisturized your skin is, your skin type, and or personal preference. Sorry I'm really confused and unclear on the the B5 gel. |

I think the idea of it is to boost and lock in the moisture provided by your moisturiser - i.e. help your moisturiser work better. Vitamin C does tend to dry out the skin, therefore some people may need additional moisture to help counteract that. Since you are using the C+E serum, rather than the C or C+AHA, you would be less likely to need it as the C+E is not as drying.
Well, that's my take on the matter anyway |

Thank you my dear. I don't know why my brain has just refused to process the B5 info. One of those things I wans't sure if I desperately needed for some reason or if it was just sort of extra and optional. I hate it when I think I might really need something. Some sort of odd mental block Your explanation makes perfect sense. |

I have used my babor balance concentrate with my c+aha serum, and I have not experienced any dryness so far - very good since I expected some. But is the B5 gel made especially to be used with vit c-serums, or can I continue to use the one I have? |

Aurora - I don't think it's made to be used only with the serums. I just look at it as a moisture boost and have used it over other things (or on "bare" skin) in the past.
Marella - You're welcome. I just hope I'm telling you the correct thing... |
