Do you use a primer before this foundation?
Foundation provides excellent coverage but does not blend that well and makes my skin look a bit oily (even though my skin is usually dry). It's a very good foundation for the evening, gives you a flawless face, but during day time it's a little bit too much
So I thought may be it will be better to use less of it but with primer? Any thoughts? |

Here in Canada they have 2 primers : one for pores and the other one for lines. Which one is better? |

I am Cdn. - Toronto. I have very dry skin so use the Satin version of the Cle de Peau cream foundation (as you have probably found out the "cream" foundation is for oily skin types - and the liquid in the tube does not provide enough coverage for me). I use the Primer that is intended to smooth lines. I hadn't used a primer in years - I found in my case that the versions I tried tended to work better on normal to oily skin types - but the Cle de Peau line smoothing Primer works very well for me. I would not buy the one for pores as it would be way too drying for me. Prior to using the Cle de Peau foundation I used Sisley's Transmat for several years - without a Plan B. I have very acidic yellow based skin so everything is a challenge. |

Has anyone tried their "correcteur visage" ? I really want to try it, but don't want to spend so much money if it isn't great. |

EskieServant, how do you like this foundation in summer ? Do you also wear a sunblock AND a primer ? |

started using the Cle de Peau Satin foundation in May and the primer in July. I should note though that I do not sweat - ever! Not a good thing - I have high body acid - and coupled with my very dry skin - I use same level of skin care year round. The primer has SPF 22 or such (in US I think it has SPF 26) but I am not sure if it would be sufficient in the summer alone as a sunscreen. My SA uses the primer as a daily sunscreen to go to work, but when on vacation uses a stand-alone - but she is not as pale as I am - nor does she have rosacea. I am able to use, of all things, La Mer's SPF 18 sunscreen - it does not leave a super dry finish on my skin, allowing me to spread my rich foundation properly. An 18 is not really enough, but better than getting a rash. When I have been going out during day, I have been applying the La Mer SPF 18 over my face creams, followed by the primer - hoping that it will not negate the La Mer - I know it won't double the protection - but I haven't burned yet. The Satin foundation does not have SPF as yet - thankfully. The Cream version with SPF is now available in Canada. The Satin is being reformulated to contain SPF and I hope that won't be a problem for me. I just wish the government would stay out of my face creams. I generally use a night cream during the day to avoid this problem as I absolutely can't use a face cream with combined SPF - many people can't. Since your skin is not as dry as mine, have you looked at the "in-between" Cle de Peau liquid foundation in a tube? It provides zero coverage for me, but others quite like it. When I was using the Sisley Transmat I wore it year round -actually I was in Italy when it was 106F degrees, wearing full makeup - dressed in a long linen skirt, jacket, hat etc., dry as all get out - while others were sticking their heads under taps. Yet I look so normal! I happened to be near Yorkdale yesterday so went into Williams-Sonoma hoping to find the BarKeeper's Friend in Liquid - no longer carrying it - so I decided to see if Holt's Yorkdale had any of the samples left of the new Cle concealer - had the e-mail about it - but they have pulled the line and now just sell it on Bloor so will call Lee. I do have the original formula in Ivory - apparently the newer version is slightly more drying. So once again I am back to only one location to buy Cle de Peau - Lee was able to call Yorkdale if Bloor was out. La Mer has come out with a new sunscreen in SPF 30 - that apparently will double as a primer, but I doubt I will be able to use it after reading the ingredients list - but it won't reach Canada until July 2010, thankfully. For years I used Erno Laszlo sunscreens - then they pulled them. The newest version is not available in Canada and I wasn't about to order it from the U.S. because I was a bit concerned about the botanicals and the tea tree oil - and just because I had been able to use the past 3 version meant zip (got burned on the eye cream reformulation that way) - so husband got it for me when he was in U.S. Awful - body only - the scent of it. So that left me again with zip. Even my derm has a problem finding one I can use. |

EskieServant,
Can I ask you who your derm is? I also live in TO.
As for this whole issue of primers/sunscreens/foundations , summer is a the worst time for me, I have very dry sensitive very pale skin that burns very easily and I hate applying 5 different products on my face.
Ideally, I want to apply just 2 products before going out: cream or primer with SPF to treat and protect (want to try Valmont Time perfection SPF20, but again the same problem - not enough protection in summer) and a light coverage foundation (I'm using Armani Face Fabric SPF12 and love it)
And for the evening I want to apply a primer without SPF (which one?) and a medium coverage foundation (Cle de Peau refining fluid that I just bought).
Have you considered MAC primer with SPF?
I will check the La Mer Primer. |

Unfortunatley my derm just retired - but not a problem for me since I already know my issues! I don't know of a primer without SPF - if Lee hadn't given me a sample of the Cle smoothing primer to try under the Satin foundation I wouldn't be using one now. I "think" that La Prairie used to make a primer that didn't have SPF but that was years ago - not sure now. Darphin has an SPF anti-aging sunscreen/primer -costs about $130 - and only SPF 15 - but again SPF. Darphin does make a SPF 30 sunscreen but I don't think it is available in Canada - and it has aloe vera I believe - I checked at one time - and I can't use aloe vera anything. The big problem with primers I have found is that they are not for very dry skin types. Laura Mercier makes a primer, but I can't use anything Mercier - and am not sure about SPF in it. I saw your note re the new La Mer SPF 30 - nope they won't ship to Canada any longer - but that is basically due to the problem Canada had when our dollar was at par and higher with the US - Canadians were ordering US made skin care from the US because even with the shipping it worked out to our advantage - but in the new SPF 30 case Canada doesn't have DIN # yet. Funny, people in US could always order from Canada though. Even Clinique that my husband was using was about 40% cheaper in US - and shipping to Canada was stopped. If you are at Cle de Peau counter at Holt's ask for Lee the CM and tell her that Linda with Elmo the Eskimo has been giving you suggestions. Lee used to be with Sisley - I knew her from this counter due to Sisley Transmat and a l/s and she was already well aware of my very weird skin. I asked her for a sample fo the Energizing Cream and much to our mutual shock I can use it. I can also use the Emulsion Eclat - but only max once a day - but not the serum. I can use the cream cleanser and the gentle liquid cleanser and the eye makeup remover. I also have Extra Silky lipstick in shade 102 - worn over Sisley's d/c auburn l/l and now Chanel's Siena l/l. You would be shocked at how it changes on me. None of the other Cle lipsticks will work on me - it is either 102 with the right lipliner or L23 in Sisley - but again the lip liner - filled totally in - is key. Used over the Cle lip balm. Another good source of products is Kris who is a team leader with Chanel - when she comes to Holt's or Mondays at Chanel Boutique. Oh, and I can use Creme Soyeuse - the night version only of course since the day has SPF. But it has been trial and error. While I must use high end stuff, fortunately it is at the low end of the high end due to my problem with acids and exfoliators. |

Update : I returned my foundation back. It's impossible for me to wear it during daytime, makes my face shiny. The sales representative insisted on trying cream foundation instead as it is less oily, but still I can see that I am wearing foundation.
So I went back to my Armani Face Fabric It's the only foundation that makes your face flawless but at the same time is invisible!
I'm still testing the Cle de Peau concealer though, and like it much more than foundation. Unlike foundation it looks very natural. |

Hi - Cle de Peau does not make a foundation that would suit your needs. I was in Holt's yesterday - Face Fabric doesn't even show up on my hand! And the cream version in Cle provides more coverage than the liquid version you returned. I am buying another back-up Satin because they are about to reformulate it - with SPF 18 - not good for me and also another back-up Creme Soyeuse - the night version that I use during daytime. Perhaps your skin is surface dry rather than deep dry as mine has always been. If you want a bit more coverage for night you might check out Sisley's oil free - I used the Sisley Transmat for several years but was worried that it would be d/c - they did away with several colours last year and I absolutely must have an oil-based, cream/liquid - straight liquid disappears immediately - and even with 4 layers of Cle Satin I appear to be wearing little. I have the original Cle concealer - am worried about new one as it is not as creamy! My Cle CM was moved to Christian Dior on April 5 but can still sell me Cle thankfully - as she knows my very weird skin type - thanks to the Sisley makeup and what we went through with Cle to find a shade. Unfortunately the Dior line's Hydrating products are limited in Canada - Europe has an Extreme cream - Canada does not. And I absolutely cannot use Capture - the perfume in it gives me a migraine - not to mention causing my rosacea to flare. They do have some nice lipsticks etc. though - if we can find me a colour. |

I am also Canadian - Toronto and SA tried CDP foundation on me once and I loved it, but I had a hard time doing it on my own. I had to return the foundation. I am glad to see that there are some CDP fans here in TO. I'm acne prone and my skin is more even tone, so I don't own foundation, but I do have a tube of Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. I really love CDP loose powder and concealer. I find so many are into mineral make-up, but I find CDP powder is the best ever out there on the market. It is so flawless!
I see Kris on regular basis also, and she is so creative with make-up. I know that she is a big fan of more natural products, especially vitamins. She is a lot of fun when we go out for drinks lol!
I love CDP lipstick and I think they are perfect to wear in the winter. Are you aware that Holt Renfrew is not the only retailer in Canada that sells CDP? |

Hi, Kris is wonderful with makeup isn't she - and also so nice - and honest when it comes to what suits a person. I first met her in the 1980s when she sold Orlane at our mutual former hairdresser's shop and then continued on with her when she worked as a consultant for Summit. I owe her the skin I have today - she fully understood my weird skin issues and that finding a colour for me was extremely difficult. I can't use Chanel skincare - used to alternate between a few Orlane and Chanel skin products before Chanel went Precision and that was that. Orlane then d/c, reformulated or "improved' the products I used to point I could no longer use them. Kris tried to match me in Vitalumiere Cream foundation, but the lightest shade is too dark and at the moment there isn't a lipstick to be had for me. Actually it was Kris who approved my CDP Satin foundation colour - like many other Kris groupees I won't buy anything colour wise without her approval - it is kind of funny when you see people swing by her station when she is doing makeups at Holt's for a quick approval. If there is a Chanel colour she thinks might work for me whe will try it, if not, we wait. Nice though to be able to ask someone who has "matured" right along with you all of these years. If you tried the Cle foundation in the Cream version you might find it a little easier to apply now since the reformulation - you twist it and it deposits the so-called right amount in your hand - but it also has an SPF now. The Satin is about to be reformulated and I am sure to have a problem. Re application - no problem for me - I use 4 times the norm and it just absorbs. I agree re the lipsticks - best ever - except I have a colour problem as well. Nothing for me in the actual regular lipsticks - all turn very pink - and I don't suit pink - but I have Extra Silky in shade 102 which is really a brown - but when mixed with my d/c Sisley Auburn lipliner it becomes the perfect reddish brown. After an exhausting search I am settling for Chanel's lipliner in Siena to wear as the l/l with the 102 - closest I can find and I searched everywhere. The Extra Silky lipsticks are great and so far I have never had one bit of it rub off on to my teeth. Of course I need to use 6 clicks, rather than the normal 2 to get enough colour and then must blot to a more matte finish because I have never suited glossy looks in my life. They are expensive, but then I only have one lipstick - so not so bad. I am hoping that I will be able to use the reformulated Cle concealer. I haven't tried the powder - I use the La Mer Translucent. I do have a blush and e/s though. Now that my Cle counter manager has been moved to Dior I am going to try out one of the l/s that just might work - price point is better - and it isn't scented. So we are both hoping. Re Cle stores in Canada, I know that Andrew's in Yorkville sells it - but I worry about turnover of product in that store and also the little cosmetics store in Bayview Village. My big problem of course is that I have to try everything and also that I need someone very honest. Fortunately, I have 2 "Designated Beauty Advisors" at Holt's that I trust - and I know how to find Kris. Just a problem when Chanel doesn't have a product for me. I know that Kris loves natural things - and I tried the jewellery but my body acid is too high and as for natural skin/makeup products - well, nothing can be as harsh as "natural"! I feel old - well I am - especially since I knew Kris way before her daughter was born - and now she is quite the young lady! |

Her daughter is beautiful! Since my skin has improved, I don't wear a lot of make-up, but one day, I told Kris that I need much "older, professional" look. There was a lot going on at work and I wanted to look the part with my job position. It really worked out amazing.
I have not tried CDP blush, eye liner, highlighters and mascara. I've read reviews on MUA and that help me decide not to try the mascara. The eye shadows are beautiful and sheer. What made me go back to Chanel was the intensity of the colours. |

Kris' daughter is beautiful - of course how could she be anything but! Definitely Kris is someone to update a look and make you look professional. Personally, I think a private session with Kris at your home is a great investment - costly at first glance but she can offer suggestions of alternative products and you can get the one-on-one help without a bazillion customers all wanting her attention. The Cle eyeshadows are very nice - but they do not last that long and they do not offer a single, matte base, which I need. So I have a quad in Cle and a Beige single in Chanel. You would never have thought that my Cle blush would suit me - my former (and current Dior/Cle Designated Beauty Advisor was shocked at how it changed on me in a good way. First I use the Peach cream blush in La Prairie over my Satin and under my La Mer powder and then I top off with the Cle Blush with is a combo blush and highlighter. I don't use the Cle eyeliner but am thinking of trying its khaki eyeliner - I have finished my Sisley khaki - so will try this next. I have auburn hair (coloured of course now but it was my natural colour) and hazel eyes - so have to watch how much green I use - but I suit khaki and it isn't too green. Re the mascara - it is expensive but I can use it. Due to my allergies and ocular rosacea it is difficult for me to find a mascara that doesn't cause a reaction. It basically just colours my lashes which is all I really want. The funny thing is is that I have very thick, wavy Irish hair - yet my eyelashes are thin. At almost 59 I want to keep a neutral look - actually this look is all I really suit. I just wish I could use a drugstore mascara due to limited life span. I won't be able to use the Dior mascara - I can smell the rose from a foot away. There is only one mascara I can use in Chanel - I know it by its shape. Can't use the newest one - Kris tried it on me last year. Life is hard, cosmetics wise. If you see Kris, please say hello - my name is Linda - but our former hairdresser, Pino, used to call me Sheila and then she picked this up! I have a dog - used to have Dachshunds (she me my alpha close up and personal and now have an Eskimo). |

have a problem with the Dior mascaras I gather. I can't use waterproof - is there a Dior mascara that you could recommend that doesn't have major rose/fragrance issues? I remember when Chanel reformulated their mascaras several years ago - added so much rose that the SAs were having trouble using them - and as it is I can only use the one type - it comes in a squarish tube - in 4 shades. Kris suggested the brown/black last time - it has a black base - due to our "declining years"! |

My all time favorite mascara is Versace mascara that I bought 3 years ago in Germany, but they discontinued the whole make-up line Even though, in my opinion, they had the best powder ( I dont use powders normally, but it was not a regular powdery powder, but very light, almost invisible) and the best mascara.
Since then I could not find any similar mascara that can create bombastic lashes without giving you a fake look.
YSL was good, but it dries out very fast.
Now I use Lancome Definicils Lash by Lash. |

Thanks for reminding me to get some waterproof mascara I will need it for the warmer weather. I like all Chanel mascaras and I don't have any issues with scented mascara also. I thought my sense of smell is good, especially when it comes to food! lol But I can't say that I detect a scent in Dior.
I've heard good things about some of YSL make-up. |
