Apparently we can ask questions on this forum also. I have hyperpigmentation and am using Retin A, so I need a really good sunblock. Any suggestions? |

the best I've used is Skinceuticals Ultra Sport SPF 45 block. It was a very high concentration of Zinc and Titanium oxides, which deflect the sun. It has a slight whitish cast, but is based on nano-technology so it's not as bad as other high-protection suncreams.
I would avoid all chemical sunscreens, since their mechanism of operation is to neutralize the sun rays as they interact with the chemical makeup of the cream on the skin. Basically, I'd rather deflect rays than have them reacting chemically on the skin. and besides, I've had mixed luck with the most highly respected sunscreens that are chemical based--la roche posay, avene, bioderma, etc.
For every day, NIA24 sunscreen is really nice, since it has skin-healthy, anti-aging ingredients in it as well. And Keys makes a good one, too.--I believe there was a recent review of Keys' solar cream on this forum.

Thanks Avalange! The first product sounds good but not for everyday use, and the others sound great also. Inky |

I would recommend Shishedo SPF 33 for everyday use and Spf 55 for long outdoor hours. It is very matty and has high % of Zinc oxides. The only drawback is they are a bit hard to remove. You have to use either an oil cleanser or makeup remover. Personally I dont mind at all beacause I am confident it provides me adequate protection. |

Definitely concur with the Shiseido, I use the SPF 55 PA +++ lotion. It's one of only two sunscreens I've ever found that I'll actually wear, my skin is *that* picky. Great UVB AND UVA protection in one, which is rare. Prevents burning and hyperpigmentation like a champ. It doesn't leave any shine at all, and has almost a light lotion to powder consistency. I find it's a great makeup primer, too, it's sort of... silky? Difficult to describe if you've never tried it, but it's just positively incredible. I can't rave about this stuff enough! It's pricy, $38 a bottle, but I've had my bottle for seven months now and haven't made a huge dent in it. It lasts and lasts! *love* this stuff to pieces and I'll definitely keep repurchasing it.
I'm on Retin-A too so we're in the same boat. |

If you like the ultra clear feeling, you could choose Japanese brands, such as Kose, Shiseido, Sofina, Kanebo, Orbis etc., so many just name a few.
I would like to pick the Key's soap this summer, which employs nano zinc oxide as main active ingredients and safer than titanium dioxide in nano size. |

A great drugstore find is Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30. I absolutely love it. I also like the Shiseido SPF 55, but I LOVE the Eucerin. |

I use the Dr Hauschka SPF 30 which is actually aimed at kids. It goes on really thick and I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't enjoy the feel of it but after I just put on a dusting of the Dr H body silk and this takes the shine off my face and adds an extra layer of protection from pollution etc.
I find the avocado oil in this sunscreen is also really great for my skin but like I say it might not be for everyone.
The more commercial sunscreen I have used and liked are the Avene Very high protection cream SPF 50 and the Clarins UV Plus Protective Day Screen SPF40 which goes on like a milk and is perfect if you want to apply make up over the top. |

pandora, is Dr.H SPF available now in Canada? Last year they weren't.
I use Lavera for sensitive skin - it's good, but the downside is that it's very white |

Sorry Zvernok I am in the UK so not sure if you can get it in canada. I too have used the Lavera for sensitive skin and found it to be very white and sticky as you say. I gave up on it after a week. |

This might be good for me because I get that red flush easily. Thanks. |

zverenok, a drop or two of Dr Hauschka Translucent Bronze Concentrate mixed with your sunscreen will completely remove white cast. HTH |

Sario do you know how high the PPD in the Shiseido is? Everything you've said about this sunscreen sounds brilliant, so just want to ensure the UVA protection is high enough. |

There are so many high SPF but it's hard to find one that is appropriate for your skin type. You did not say what your skin type is, so I can only guess that you have no skin issues except aging.
I agree with Shiseido SPF 55 that can be used on daily basis. Personally, I found that it was hard to wash off and it could clog my pores. La Roche Posay has some really nice high SPF. |

I love the Shiseido SPF 55, but it's hard to find in my location, so I usually use the La Roche Posay sunscreens. |

Hi there, also you can try Shiseido anti-aging spf 50 /43 /34 /30... etc.
Shiseido has a lot of products you can choose. However, the better way is to try them in the stores.
Good luck!

However, there is a lemma that some professionals claim that the SPF value should be under 30, otherwise the sunscreen will hurt your skin....
So what do you think? |

Marnie does the Shiseido's PPD compare to LRP's? (which are in the 20's) |

I've been using Obagi NuDerm since late Jan 09. Last month I went on a 7 day cruise to St Thomas, St. Croix, etc. I wanted to keep using the Obagi while on the cruise, but knew I needed to be diligent about using sunscreen on the cruise. I bought Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF 85. I reapplied every 2 hours or so, and I never got red or burned.
When I came home, I read my April InStyle Magazine, and in it was the 2009 Best Beauty buys...the Neutrogena sunscreen was listed as the best body sunscreen. The best facial suncreen was LaRoche-Posay Anthelios SPF 40..but I haven't used that one. |
