Hi
I have been using retin-a (tretinoin 0.05%)from the All Day Chemist for the past 6 months, for about 3 or 4 nights a week. I have dry skin and was hoping it would help the wrinkles and bad pigment problems i have. I've noticed that when i smile the skin on my face , especially on my cheeks looks very crepey- I originally tried retin-a a couple of years ago, which i bought from a different source, and it made my face peel leaving my skin looking quite fresh this time though it doesn't seem to be doing anything - Should i give it up? and what could i use to improve my skin texture? Now it is all crepey will i ever be able to get it looking better? I use a microfibre face cloth in the morning and have just started using a Derma Wand - will these things help?? Any advice you could give me would be very much appreciated - I turned 40 last week and feel that my age is really beginning to show |

Are you using the gel or cream? Do you use sunscreen daily?
You may be at the point where things will start to turn around and improve but its hard to say for sure. Some times it can several months to see improvement and your skin might not look so nice till then. |

Hi Girliegirl
I use the cream and often use a moisturising cream about an hour after using the retin-a
- I suppose i'm just wondering if i'm doing more harm than good as i certainly haven't seen any difference at all in my skin texture and ceratinly not anything good!! - |

What are you using on the "off" nights? I would heavily moisturize every other night, maybe use avocado oil or some other oil to counteract some of the dryness that the Retin A creates.
Also, drink lots of water! Hang in there...Retin A can make the most profound difference in your skin, but it takes a while. Once you are tolerating it better (usually in the summer months, that are more humid) increase it to every night! I'm a 22 yr Retin A veteran and its the best thing I ever did for my skin. |

| ok...you slid another post in there before I got mine posted. Personally, I would not add any moisturizer after using your Retin A. Use it "straight up!" This is the old-school way of doing it, and I guarantee you, it works! |

| Renova may be a better choice for you as it is a more emollient formula. Not sure where you would purchase though. |

| I believe Renova is just Retin-A in an emollient base. I think you could add 0.1% Retin-A to anything like Eucerin and still have a nice product. You could then vary the ratio of RA to Eucerin to increase/decrease the concentration as needed. |

Correct me if I am wrong but could the use of a microfiber cloth every morning be a bit too much for your skin while using Retin-A? I just started using Retin-a and am afraid to use anything else to exfoliate as I don't want to overkill.....not sure how other methods of exfoliating should fit in with Retin-A, so anyone who knows about this please chime in! |
