I've just discovered that my local beauty salon does brazilians...I'm thinking of taking the plunge. How much does it hurt? Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain? How gynecological is it and is it worth it?
TIA, Liz |

Been there, done that. No worries. Though I advise taking some Ibuprofen/Advil about two hours prior. This is a prostaglandin-inhibitor, as well as an anti-inflammatory. Will make process easier. Do not do this the week leading to your period; your skin is more tender, and the procedure will hurt more. Check your inhibitions at the door. Trust me: you'll never go back, once you've done the deed.

I've also been considering this but there are two things that scare me.
1) Pain - I do my own bikini wax and it no longer hurts now but the brazilian has GOT to hurt!
2) Uncomfortable regrowth - When the hair is growing back and still too short to be waxed again wouldn't that be rather uncomfortable? |

That's what I was wondering too. I remember years ago, I was shaved for surgery and the regrowth was very uncomfortable. How often do you have it done? I figure I'll just wait...my mum is in her eighties and has gone bald "down there!"
Don't you just love this forum where anything goes? |

I had it done last summer. You should ask your beautician what method she uses - hot or cold wax, oriental depilation... I went for the oriental, they use a special herbal stuff that is supposed to weaken the roots of the hair so it doesn't grow back as much. The results lasted approx. 5 weeks and regrowth wasn't uncomfortable at all, certainly wasn't itchy which is what you tend to get after shaving. Regarding the pain - I survived!!! It all lasted about 10 min and it got more painful as the beautician was getting towards the middle bit. I was asked to assist and hold the skin tight. You should put some aloe vera or tea tree gel on afterwards to calm the skin down. Good luck eveyone, it's worth it (at least my boyfriend thinks so )

Evi, if they don't do oriental, which is best hot or cold wax?
CM, when you say I'll never go back once I've done it, do you mean to the salon? Is it that embarrassing?
If ibuprofen helps, would a couple of swift shorts beforehand also help?
Nice link BTW!
Nana, I don't wanna wait that long! |

Guapagirl, I'm no expert but have heard that cold wax is much more painful so if I were you I'd go for the hot version. Evi |

That's it, I have to stop reading this thread because I fear that it will actually mean that I'll end up doing this (just like I just bought a ceramic hair iron after reading the other thread ). And I really *don't* want to do this because it's going to hurt like hell!
Guapagirl - I hope CM meant you'll never go back to not doing it, rather than you'll never end up going back to the same salon (though that could be true as well ). |

Well I live in a small place where everyone knows everyone else...my worse nightmare is I go in, strip off and assume the position and then one of the ex pupils from the school where I work comes in...Fortunatley I don't think any of them have any scores to settle with me, so hopefully I'll just have to put up with "bloody hell, you shoulda seen Ellis' minge when I finished wiv 'er ".
Might increase my popularity with the boys mind |

I have been getting Brazillian bikini wax now on a monthly basis, for many years. I have had some negative experiences with inexperienced estheticians (getting burned and bruised, one used a roll on wax the kind you used for the face... !! ). At one point, I got an irritation that lasted 15 months where that area was sooo dry, and I had to take a hiatus from waxing. But now I'm all healed up and back to waxing Thanks to Mario Badescu healing cream!
The key is finding an excellent esthetician who uses a hot hard wax, that you don't need muslin strips with (that makes it more painful in my experiences). Don't go before your period, as your skin is more sensitive. Most importantly try and relax. I have a pretty high pain threshold and have lots of piercings, but I still find it uncomfortable. But the results are sooo worth it!!! I used to get horrible shaving bumps from waxing, and now I get none. And the results last longer (1 month as opposed to daily from shaving). Once you find a good esthetician, it will be a good experience, and you will be addicted like me |

I remember years ago, instead of shaving or using Immac (cream) I thought I'll wax it myself!
Day before I was due to go on holiday with my Mum I did it.
OH MY GOD....I put the wax on, put the strip on and pulled it the wrong way...
I ended up with what looked like a HUGE lovebite all over that area and around the top of my leg!!. Mum said no way was I sunbathing like that.....she said people would think I have a sadistic boyfriend!!!! |

I think I will keep mine natural. But I do have a friend who plucks, she swears it does not hurt and it is obviously very acurate, when designing the style.

i do my own brazilian on occasion. you just have to remember to breath and not tense up too much. and i've found that regrowth really isn't that bad, as it doesn't all come back in heavily at the same time (unlike shaving, blunt ends and all, i'm squirming just thinking about the discomfort of shaving regrowth). i suppose i've gotten the method down, it does hurt, but, literally, 4-5 wax strips, and i'm done. nothing completely unbearable.
i'm always sure to rinse off w. some cool water and put plenty of soothing cream on afterwards. |

While we're on the subject, and since I'm shamefully nosey, how many of you actually have your bush trimmed into a special design??
Just curious...
