I think this might be OK with a moisturizer but with Retin A you are supposed to wait 20-30 minutes after cleansing to apply it. Unless it is Retin A micro which you can apply right after cleansing. I think it is best to wait until the skin is dry to apply Retin A or a moisturizer. |

As I recall, using a strong retinoid on damp skin causes extra irritation. So, unless you have rhino skin, you'd be better off using it on completely dry, clean skin. |

To echo what these ladies have stated. From the research I have done: YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT!! |

I've heard the regular skin care should be applied right after you clean your skin to lock the moisture.
Did not know retin-a and now i learned here that it is not good if you use it when skin is not complete dry. thanks for the post, learned something |

I agree with Dryady. My mom always said to put lotion on right after the shower bc pores are larger and to trap the moisture.
However, this is just lotion. I don't know about retin-a so would go with the previous advice. |

It's ok for moisturizer (or perhaps most things that don't have the potential to be irritating or cause excessive dryness or scaling) because as the water evaporates off the skin with the rest being drawn in, your moisturizer is taken along with it. It increases absorption/penetration. This is why it is best to wait 20 to 30 minutes when applying retinoids. This increased absorption no doubt increases irritation.
That's why for people with very dry skin it's often recommended they apply moisturizer to the body while still damp, etc etc.
There is a more complicated explanation for this but that's the gist of it.
Retin A Micro is said to be fine immediately after, but (when I used it) I still waited because I found it irritating even when I waited. With retinoids you aren't going to dramatically increase results by applying it straight away but you'll probably notice increased redness, sensitivity, etc. |

It helps the Retin A to penetrate better when you apply it to slightly damp skin and helps the Retin A spread better than on completely dry skin, but that can mean more irritation and redness for some people. |

I just thought maybe his way of thinking is that increased redness etc means it more effective but I guess not always necessary! And im a bit concerned if I am applying my creams on damp skin, I am making the ingredients ineffective. Theres always something new to ponder about!!! |
