Hi, this is pretty embarrassing to admit, but I must warn some of you might say ewwww when you read this. I have some very old makeup like even 5 years, or maybe older! Shock I can't tell if it's still good. For example, I have eyeshadow that is about 5 years old or maybe even 6 years old. I also have a clinique hard powder as well as a Lancome blush. I don't remember when I bought them but I know they are both older than 5 years old. I don't use makeup too often, and this is why they last this long. I have some old mascaras, too, but they dry out, so I have no choice but to toss them out. How long do you keep your old makeup around?

For lipsticks, cream blushes or anything with a liquidy texture I either do a sniff test or within a year. Mascara I usually toss within 6 months. But I am the same with you when it comes to powder. Some colours I only use once or twice every 3 months or so. I use clean brushes and haven't (knock on wood) found any problems. Also seeing some of the collections of some people out there I can't imagine you and I are the only one to do this. Especially when they pull out limited edition items from 5 years + ago.

Rolling Eyes Well, i found my makeup which my friends have gave me 5 years ago. I don't really like the colour but i never throw away directly, just because im not using it. The blusher and powder eyeshadow will do a big result for me in producing new combination of colour. Idea Its a great idea when you just try to mix the colour before buying other colour of eyeshadow or blusher. Wink So,that you won't regret after buying a few expensive brand!
Laughing Crazy...but there it goes!the satisfaction is costly, you need to choose the colour that you want, without regret of buying it. Idea Wink

I looked at my hardly used hard powder, and while realizing it's old, I have a hard time throwing it away. Can it go bad? How will you know?

I didn't know lipstick lasts only for 6 mths.. i normally keep them for about a year or even two years sometimes before I throw away the remainings! I guess most makeup cannot last for 2 years after opening.

I totally agree with Katsey's approach: creams and liquids get the sniff test, one year max. Powders, if used with clean brushes, seem to last indefinitely. Mascara is the one thing that I don't keep around, usually toss it once it passes the 3 month mark. I do think tinali0202 is right about lipsticks getting tossed after 6 months, but I have to admit, I usually go a year.

I don't know about the rest of you, but since I don't reapply mascara during the day, and usually forget to reapply lipstick, I end up tossing a rather large amount of unused portion. That gets me mad when I paid more than drugstore $$ for it.

I think for products like foundation, lip stick should not be more then half a year. whereas eyeshadow can be like a year. Embarassed
