I have been using this for about 1 month and haven't noticed any difference accept that when I wake up my skin is very smooth. This product got great reviews on here, and I'm wondering how long I should wait to see results? Also, are you able to use acids under this, like glycolics, ect.? |

kdd, what are your concerns and your age? (sorry for asking) do you have wrinkles/fine lines to start with?
don`t expect miracles in removing wrinkles if you have any, I`m 30 and using Eluage with Diacneal (on different nights) for about a year. I do have some fine lines under my eyes and starting nasolabial lines and they are softened since starting using Eluage but not completely removed. I doubt any product can do this. I will be happy if Avene retinaldehyde products will not allow them to get worse. My skin is also smoother, softer and plumper (thanks hyaluronic acid).
as for acids - there is no need to use acids with Eluage, you can always use Diacneal (0.1% retinaldehyde + 6% glycolic acid), it is the strongest retinaldehyde product in this line. |

I too have slight nasolabial lines and very small fine lines under my eyes. I am hoping this will help soften the nasolabial lines, which is my main concern.
Have you tried the Diacneal? If so how did that work for you? |

yes, I`m using Diacneal now alternating it with Eluage. My "love story" with Diacneal was long, slow and difficult
at first it irritated me very much because of glycolic acid, however I had used a glycolic acid product before so my skin was not new to acids. But nevertheless every time I put Diacneal I got red patches on the face. By the morning the irritation was over and the skin was back to normal.
I quit using it and was not using it for a while, but then decided to use again - as it is the strongest anti-aging product in the line - the highest % of retinaldehyde + glycolic acid increases penetration.
You can in fact buy Avene Retrinal 0.1% if you are US-based, but I`m in Europe and they do not sell it here.
My second attempt with Diacneal was far more successful, I rarely get irritation and if I do, it is minor one. So I`m using it alternating with Eluage: one night Diacneal/one night Eluage or one night Diacneal/two nights Eluage. |

What has alternating them done for your skin? I just notice smooth skin in the morning from the eluage, but nothing more so far. |

softened fine lines, even skin texture, plumpness, softness and smoothness. enough to be happy?
I`m not planning to use Diacneal alone as I think my skin loves hyaluronic acid in Eluage, and Diacneal is very harsh for every-day use for me.
I had not measured somehow my lines before using retinaldehyde but I do think they are softened and look better. |

Thanks a lot I'll stick with it and see how it goes. |

I just wanted to add that retinaldehyde is supposed to be the next strongest thing after prescription retinoids, as it needs only one conversion in the skin to become retinoic acid, while retinol needs 2 conversions:
retinol => retinaldehyde => retinoic acid
losing strength with every conversion. |

one more thing worth to be mentioned:
if you will think of using Diacneal - don`t don`t don`t use it under your eyes!!! it will burn the tender under-eye skin! I`ve learned it hard way and am using Avene Eluage Serum under my eyes on the nights I`m using Diacneal.
by the way - have you had any peeling from Eluage? |

I will remember that! No I have not had any peeling from it at all. Did you experience any peeling from it? |

I've been using the Avene retinaldehyde products for several years now. I started with Ystheal, switched to Eluage, and now am using Diacneal. I did get a bit of peeling and flaking when I bumped things up to the Diacneal, but only for a few days. I use it nightly now with no problems, including around the eyes. |

flitcraft, what are your results? how would you evaluate effectiveness of Avene retinaldehyde products on fine lines/wrinkles?
I used Diacneal under my eyes several times and my skin was damaged there... nothing irreversible, but still not good. everyone is different |

I've seen a softening of fine lines, especially around my mouth, and my skin generally looks "healthier." I have less blotchiness, less redness in the cheek area, a finer texture and plumpness in my face, and a lessening of some hyperpigmentation. Mind you, I also have been using Vitamin C for even longer than the Avene retinoid, and in the last year have added an LED and I'm just now starting to do the Ageless exercises. So it's hard to say exactly what is responsible for what. But, given the clinical track record of retinoids, I think some of my positive results have to be the result of the Avene retinaldehyde. Also, I didn't start using any skincare actives at all until my early fifties, and then only because a bout of chemotherapy and radiation had wreaked such havoc on my skin that I had to do something. So my positive results may well be atypical if you haven't got the kind of skin damage that I have dealt with.
And Aiva, I heartily agree that everybody's skin is different. I'm jealous of those who can use Retin A--I tried it and got nothing but angry, irritated, peeling, and painful skin. And NIA 24 sunscreen, that so many here love, broke my out in some weird kind of rash. |
