I've been reading this board since I've received my derma roller, and have learned a lot, so I figure I might as well sign up and contribute.
Here is a little background.
I have stretchmarks on my hips, back of my legs, and a little on my inner thigh.
I wanted to do something to lighten them, found the derma roller, and rolled august 13.
I definitely did not have the info I know now and my treatment still showed great results. I kind of did a ghetto treatment, lol.
I went to target and got avalon vitamin c lotion and palmers cocoa butter for stetchmarks and used both of these lotions. First, I used the avalon right after my roll and man did it STING. Then about 10 minutes later used the palmers. There was inflammation for a few days, then it just went away.
My reasoning for using these two products was, avalon has vitamin c, vitamin e, hyaluronic acid, and a bunch of other stuff and it's organic. I used palmers because it has collagen and elastin and I read the collagen and elastin is good for the skin's elasticity, but is NOT absorbed when applied topically, however it is after you use the derma roller. I only used this stuff for like a week after, then just used regular palmers cocoa butter on the areas.
My results were as followed, my stretch marks are much shallower, they are almost level with the surrounding skin. Also, as superdogg mentioned, my stretchmarks are also geting pigment, possibly because I too am biracial. However I think its just new healthy collagen and elastin in the skin.
I plan to roll again next thursday, a full 6 weeks from aug 13. This time I'm going to use Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C), vitamin E, and Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A). |

Hi ladies,
okay, so I have made up my mind and will start the rolling process.
First, though, I will order 0,05% retin A from alldaychemist and make my own Vitamin C spray. I will apply the retin a every other day for 2 months, the vitamin c spray every day for 2 months.
Then I will start rolling every 6 weeks. I will do Erin's (P Girl's) rolling routine, but will wait 30 minutes before applying the Retin A and will wait 2 days before starting the Vitamin C again.
Does this sound good to you guys?
I am not impatient, I have lived with my SMs for 8 years now, I want best results and the 2 months preparation time seem like a good investment.
One question, though, how do you guys moisturize with all the Vitamin C and Retin A and not using them together and not mixing them with anything else? I have crazy dry skin..
Do I just wait after applying Vitamin C after my shower and then moisturize later the same day?
Hope everybody is well! |

Sounds good to me. As long as you have done your research, I say go for it.
I would suggest using your chosen moiturizer a few hours after applying any Retin-A/Vit C. |

Can I ask is is it good to apply retin a? I read on dermarolling forum that it can do harm and that is better to use another form of vitamin a?
I personally choose to use avocado oil instead.Because of all it is harm it isn't harm... |

I bought my roller from Sarah Vaughter at owndoc (.com) that sells a vit. A cream in the form of Retinyl Acetate instead of Retinoic acid. It also contains vit. D. The cream comes with their rollers. Retinoic acid is too harsh on open skin. |

It's normal to be red after a roll. It could have been the creams you used, but is more likely from the roll itself. It sounds normal to me. Red, stinging? etc.
When I rolled the redness and stinging didn't start to calm down for a good few days. So I don't think your redness will go in one day, it could though... we're all different. But most people experience reddness/inflammation for the first few days after a roll.
Where are the stretch marks that you rolled? couldn't you wear something that would cover them? |

Personally if my skin doesn't go red i feel i haven't done it right...I am beginning to think that for skin on the body other than the face a 2mm roller would be better cause the skin is thicker. Not to mention Male skin is thicker than female skin.
Manski it will be red like for three days, if u going to party don't apply retin a till after it it, cause that will make it more red.... you might have to change what you are going to wear or buy foundation |

you think i should just stop using retin a totally. Also my skin around the area i applied retino a feels very coarse and rough. Is that normal? Is there any difference between retin a and retino a. I hope there is nothing to get worried about |

What you describe sounds totally normal to me, even the coarse skin.
Don't panic, in a few days to a week it will look/feel better. You have just pushed needles into your skin, you need to expect some sort of redness and skin texture change.
If it was the retino that caused the rednes (although I would think it was from the needles...) just try not to apply it when you know you are going somewhere where you will be showing that part of your body. |

I am sure it will be fine. If you find your skin continues to sting etc you might want to maybe use it every other day rather than daily, it's up to you.
I used Retin-A 0.05% cream and that started to irritate my skin, so I stopped using it daily.
We all react differently. My skin became very crusty and bruised/red that's when I decided to leave the Retin-A for a while. It was also very itchy. |

I cannot remember exactly, but I noticed when applying my retin-a cream the crusty/coarse texture stayed, along with redness and discoloration. Once I stopped using it, it all started to clear up in about a week or two (I cannot remember exactly).
You could continue with the Retin-A every other day for a few days then leave it for a week.
I didn't get the discoloration or coarse feeling the next day though. You might just be sensitve to the cream. |

Retin A is supposed to be excellent to use at night when dermarolling. I think it will cause harm, though, if you use it on an open wound or if you have a sensitivity to it.
Mansik, have you ever used Retin A on healthy skin (just wondering if you have a sensitivity to it)? It's more likely though, that it is a chemical burn from applying it to wounds and from the interaction of Retin A and Vitamin C being applied at the same time. |

yes i have and ive never had such a reaction to it before. It was only after rolling that the entire area that applied retin a to has become extremely discolored. Its quite itchy too and i want it to go away soon. I read a thread wherein it said the discoloration takes months to fade away..Is that true? i'm feeling quite miserable about it |

On this thread are some places you can buy a derma roller: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=29392
I have previously bought mine from Nova Clinic: http://www.dermarollers.com/
I bought another 2 from Dr.Roller.eu: http://www.dr-roller.eu/ Their service was brilliant, and they are the cheapest I have found. Delivery was free too, and arrived in about a week.
If I order anymore I will certainly order from them again.
The above websites sell Dr.Roller rollers, these are the ones I would recommend you buy.
Here is another website where you can buy a roller from (I am not sure where you are from...): http://www.derma-rollers.com/
I would advise not to take notice of their usage instructions, I am sorry but they are incorrect (has been discussed before), no one should roll daily.
Maybe other people will be able to recommend more websites. |
