superdogg if you bothered to read EMLA instructions, it says "do not use on open skin"
It is not me who says it ,it is the FDA. FDA did not approve lidocaine to be used on open skin unless you are medically supervised. If you roll the skin you make the skin open.
Breezy did not ask about EMLA but about 15% liquid lidocaine that will be applied after the skin was rolled. It means that high percentage of lidocanine will be applied on open skin!
So why dont you write to the FDA and tell them that THEY talk rubbish because YOU know that using lidocaine at home on open skin is perfectly safe.
Dr. Fernandes who invented the dermaroller says that it can increase the absorption of products by several thousand folds comparing to absorption by intact skin. That's why I explained you that your safety limits are irrelevant because they were set up for usage on intact skin. The safety limits on open skin were not yet determined.
I haven't been warning people about EMLA in general. EMLA is OK.
I have been only warning about using lidocaine on open skin - like rolling EMLA into your skin or applying liquid lidocaine on the skin that had been rolled.
It is not approved so if you do it be extra careful.
what is your problem with that?? |

Actually, the instructions call for rolling the skin first with a .25 roller to break through the SC before applying the liquid Lidocaine.
You would then be rolling with a deeper roller, so I am not sure how you would remove the Lidocaine since the liquid has already seeped into the skin.
As far as EMLA, yes you should wipe that off before using the longer needles.
Can we all get along? BF |

I am okay with someone wiping it off just like 30 sec before they use it but martal you were telling people to wash it off lol
And not only that u said it isn't safe people will die so just use an ice pack e.t.c
Anyways any results from anyone. Seems alot of people talk about how they are goign to do a roll but no one posts results? |

I've done 4 deep rolls since June and several short needle rolls in between. My understanding is that this is too soon to tell.

Barefootgirl according to most studies you start seeing results from six weeks full results by 90 days then after that the collagen tightens up and becomes mature or something lol I don't know.
Are we chasing a pot at the end of the rainbow? Cause most studies were done on people faces. Strechmarks seem to be uncharted territory. Tho i am hoping for the best cause this is the cheapest option for me. |

I think it's just a matter of giving it time. The dramatic results I've seen on SM's have been after a year or so (pictures) so we'll just have to wait. If you see the beginning of this thread, a woman rolled her sisters SM's and 10ish months later they were 60% reduced - and that was WITHOUT using Vit A and Vit C. Personally I'd be over the moon with a result like that. |

Can I remind everyone of the Dr. Fernandes in-depth article on dermarolling. In it he logs the results of dermarolling on lax stomach skin and breast stretchmarks amongst other things.
"Results of percutaneous collagen induction PCI has been used with success for lower-eyelid wrinkles (see Fig. 2), upper-lip lines (see Figs. 3 and 4), facial wrinkles (see Fig. 5; Fig. 18 ), and lax photo-damaged skin on the arms (see Fig. 7), abdomen (Fig. 19), and legs. It is also useful for reducing the appearance of stretch marks (see Fig. 6) so that they become almost invisible. It is particularly useful for acne scars and post burn scars. The scars will flatten and, after a few treatments, the mesh marks of skin grafts will be less obvious."
For the full article the link is below (which if you haven't read it, you should because it explains everything - just don't linger on the dermarolled face image for too long )
For my previous question 'how often', Dr. F. doesn't seem to address this but mentions tissue formation takes 8 weeks to complete, so that is how often I will roll.

I do believe on thin stretch marks it can work really well, but mine are so thick. I guess i will have to wait and see |

Mine too are very deep and five years old now. My first target is just to improve them.
It's strange when I read about the epidermis/dermis being spoken in terms of mm when my scarring is so deep! My skin must have completely collapsed to the subcutaneous fat.
How long/how many times have you been dermarolling Superdogg? |

barefootgirl when i didn't know what elma was... i had to get drunk, sniff poppers, take a painkiller and put an ice pack...lol AND THAT DIDN'T WORK. emla has saved me
I know alot of websites sell emla just type emla and pharmacy tho it is going to be expensive.
Have you tried going to a pharmacy and explaining that it is for laser or tattooing or just say acupuncture to treat scars... Worked for me but i am in uk... don't know if you need prescription
This website sell emla...http://www.77canadapharmacy.com/emla.php |

this post is getting too out of control for me to browse through it easily so sorry if my question is repetitive...
How often do you dermaroll for stretch marks? How do you prep the skin? What topicals do you use afterwards? Do you do a few passes in each direction or just one? I have a 1.5 mm dermaroller and I've used it twice (a week apart) and put on RAM directly afterwards. Am I doing ok? In between rollings, once a day I'm applying Bio Oil. |

Hi,
Like superdogg said, the first post will have most of the info you are looking for.
You should not roll once a week, like you have... so I recommend you not to do that again. Don't worry we all have to start somewhere.
People should be rolling once every 4-6 weeks (some people wait even longer in between rolls).
Some of the users on here apply Retin-A and a DIY Vit C spray. |

Hello everyone,
I've just bought a 1.5mm dermaroller for post pregnancy SM's and having read alot of information, I thought I would bring this to your attention as I keep seeing the use of ascorbic acid being mentioned in this thread.
It was written by Dr. Desmond Fernandes.
Noxious chemicals, however, may still penetrate the skin, so only safe molecules should be used topically (Fig. 11).
After this serous leak has stopped, the skin is washed thoroughly and then covered with vitamin A, C, and E oil or cream (do not use ascorbic acid).
For the full article (which is very informative) here's the link:

Hi Miranda,
I read the article, too, a long time back. I'm confused now, though.
It says to apply Vitamin C, but not ascorbic acid.. what's the difference?
And does that mean making your own Vitamin C spray is not okay?
Has anybody heard of alternatives to Retin A? That work just as well? It seems so hardcore.
Aw, god. I've been reading about stretchmarks for 6 months now, lol. I keep forgetting things all the time.
Also, has anyone heard of Erin Lea? |

It doesn't have to be retin A. Just vitamin a...Retin A is more effective, but other forms will do cause they are cheaper and more available |

I PM'd P Girl (Erin Lea) about 2 months ago. I have had no reply, I am not sure where she is... perhaps she is just busy or cannot get internet access etc.
I had a PM the other week on here, from some person I recommended a derma roller to (to use on stretch marks). I don't know who they are exactly, as I regularly answer peoples stretch mark questions on yahoo answers, so perhaps it was someone from there.
They thanked me and seem extremely pleased with their results, the only thing is... they have been using it daily for 4 weeks . I did not recommend this and sent them in the right direction for correct info. Anyway, they feel that some of their stretch marks have completely gone, some almost gone and broke down/filled in by half. The only problem is, what they are seeing is probably inflammation and they might have caused the dreaded micro-inflammation and damaged their skin rolling SO often. |

You are right. The problem is no one is ever around to tell us about their results... Most likely they have stopped rolling |

I have been dying to say something, anyways, my nasty thick stretch mark have improved maybe by like 15%. But they even looked better when i saw they have abit of melanin and then i thought let me tan it. And it kinda worked.... it has like i would say 25% color to the rest of the skin. Plus they look abit fuller. I hope i can post more good news. it only been like 2 and half months since i started. IF in six month or 8 it is still working, oh my! I can't believe something has actually worked! And this is from my cheap £10 roller from ebay from z mart ! |

I am not sure if the poster is on this site or not...
Anyway, what I read I found interesting...

Finnaly I have some good news to report.
Some months ago I started to treat my stretch marks with a single needle that I received together with my dermaroller. I emailed them and she explained me how to do it. I only prick stretch marks not the skin around and I go deeper than my 1.5 dermaroller does. I did all my stretch marks 3times (once a month). I was really scared at the beginning but the needle is very thin and I don't need any numbing. I do about 50 stretch marks a day.
Some stretch marks start to break up! I noticed it last week but I though I was fooling myself. I checked it today in many different lights and I even used a magnifying glass and some stretch marks are breaking up and there are tiny areas of normal looking skin in the stretch marks.
It takes quite a while to heal thought. I couldn’t hide it form my boyfriend and when he saw the red stripes on my abdomen after my first treatment he said ”looks like you were attacked by a bear”.lol He didn’t even ask me what I did .He got used to me doing very weird stuff with my skinJ
I also used that single needle on my scar caused by vaccination but I only did it once- there is no improvement yet. |
You can buy the derma roller +individual needle kit from here for $49: http://www.owndoc.com/health-and-beauty-products/ / http://dermaroller.owndoc.com/
Here are the 'before and after' pics from someone who used the single needle (don't ask me whether they are fake or not, because I have no idea): http://www.owndoc.com/stretchmarks/stretchmarks-single-needle-before-and-after/ |

I thought I'd post how I'm getting along with my 'mild' dermarolling on my abdomen stretchmarks - I have only done once side to gauge how well it works.
This is more for my benefit as a kind of diary, so bear with me if there's no wow factor here
One week after using a 1.5mm dermaroll without numbing and no blood being drawn, yesterday my whole area was flaking (must be something happening). This morning I got my brilliant Timepeel microdermabrasion machine out (see thread 'home microdermabrasion machine') and blasted all those flakes, then after a shower I slathered on my flavour of the month, Hempseed Oil.
Right now the area is lovely and smooth (although of course the SM's are still there).
We will see how the experiment continues.
Also fascinating stuff about the needle - this would be perfect for my facial chicken pox scar. |

Here is a message to all from PGirl = "I'm still here (sort of)...I rarely come by EDS anymore as things have gone a little crazy in my personal life right now. I stopped my rolling in May and have every intention of resuming. There is definitely progress in my abdomen area so I want to encourage all of you to continue. I do come by every now and then and check on everyone's progress on the SM rolling thread and hopefully one day I'll be back on a regular basis to post and continue with my rolling. If you wouldn't mind passing that info. along I'd appreciate it." Hoping she returns soon with more success!! |

Hi supperdog!
Can you tell me how many time did you roll over your back at each session? Was it 5 times in each direction or more?
I'm planning to do my back this weekend.I see you saw some improvement so I'm curious...
So far I did my legs, front, back, inner tigh, knees. It didn't hurt so much, I was able to do it without numbing, and press really hard. There wasn't many blood, just few drops but all area was purple. It's been week now and it is still red. Tomorrow I will do both my lower legs.
Best wishes to everyone here |

well the way I roll is:
I use emla, then I start rolling with pressure on one spot but moving it up and down continuously moving it side to side ( up and down vertically) until the numbness is gone. I don't do the star pattern, I just do it vertical and horizontal.
I make sure i bleed when i roll cos i know all the needle has gone in and is not just resting on the skin.pLUS I seem only to get pigment into my skin when it bleeds.
The stretch marks seem to be around the same size but with like 20% pigment |
