Because I hate applying C serum. I decided to give it a try yet again now that I'm engaged, since brighter smoother skin with fewer acne spots would be welcome.
But I kind of hate it -- I hate how it's always a bit sticky, I hate having to wait before applying other products, and I hate spending money on something when I can barely notice the results. (For what it's worth, I also hate making it, so DIY is only a marginally acceptable solution.)
Any ideas how many bottles of $55 PSF I have to go through before things start looking better? To be fair, whenever I've given C a try in the past, I always get sick of using it after one bottle so I've never done more than one full bottle in one go. Perhaps two or three bottles' worth will actually be noticeable? |

Hey ginnielizz, congratulations on your engagement!
Wish I could help... Honestly, I use topical Vit C and retinol and really can't see a difference... I use them for preventative and anti-aging purposes only...have tried a few Vit C and retinol solutions and used them off/on for the last few years with no dramatic improvements.
It could be that my skin is in good enough condition that no visual difference can be seen... (40's, no hyperpigmentation or lack of clarity, oily skin with no deep wrinkles) or else I'm immune to these products.
Yet I still use them hopefully for proactive anti-aging and anti-oxidant benefits. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with something more useful... |

I agree there is long term benefit of using C. But if you are looking for adding some glow to your complexion, a well formulated C serum should give you the results within weeks. When I first use Cellex-C, my skin started to have a nice glow (not shining) that caught a few co-workers attention just in a short 2 weeks. But then later I go cheap and started to DIY. Just not the same. |

The only C serum that I have had "visible" results from was Skinceuticals C, E, Ferulic. It took about 3 months, but it helped fade some pigmentation and gave a nice glow to the skin. That said, after that initial fading/glow, there was no other change. I actually look at the C as preventive and getting more protection out of sunscreen. Maybe you could look at some other actives to give your skin a glow for your wedding if that is what you are after. |

Why would you say that? Once a safe and effective recipe is obtained, mixing something in a bottle isn't exactly rocket science. |

I get a sense you have never tried it. SAFE and FRESH is EXACTLY what it is!! Storebought formula's could never be as safe. That is the beauty of it. No crap in it! Ginnielizz...I can't identify any particular "transformation" in my skin specifically from the "C"...and it would be hard to isolate what the "C" is doing, since I also use Tazorac, a Light Stim, Dermaroller, emu oil, etc. I agree, it is a little inconvenient to use, but the C may just be fighting the free radicals that wear down and age the skin. I know my skin doesn't have the hyperpigmentation it used to and looks quite youthful for my 50+ years. I think its worth it! |

????? Don't let Kassy hear you say that! Lot's of people DIY and have had great results and have saved cash.
GinnieLiz - Agree that C&E ferulic from Skinceuticals is a great C product. Right now I am using a DIY from Kassy and it is terrific. I do believe the benefits are not directly obvious but cumulative and the value is in what you prevent Vs what you immediately see.
I had a nice glow from Green Cream - 6% and then went to 9%. Oh and my other most favorite glow product is Karin Herzog - for me the 2%Vk or the apricot do it!
Congrats on the upcoming nuptuals. Have fun, smile lots. |

Let me add my congratulations on your upcoming wedding and my 2 cents on your question. It seems to me that those of us who have seen marked benefits from C serum are those who are older and had skin damage to reverse. At your age, I wouldn't expect that you have much if any age-related damage to deal with. So it's no surprise that you aren't seeing immediate, palpable evidence of efficacy. But, as others have said, there is real value in preventing and slowing future aging. There is good clinical evidence showing that Vitamin C serum has beneficial effects on the skin, especially in avoiding UV caused skin issues, and our anecdotal evidence here on the forum confirms those studies. So, keep up with the C serum and other actives so your skin will be at its best in your later anniversary pictures! And I am sure that your natural radiance on your wedding day will give you all the glow that you will need in the meanwhile. |

I have oily, sensitive skin and the PSF C serum gave me a brighter complexion within a couple of days but remember to keep it in the fridge!
However I stopped using it because I'm using Jan Marini's line to help with my breakouts. Unfortunately the JM's line doesn't help with brightening for me.
Congratulations on your engagement! |

hi there and congrats!
I agree with several of the others - i noticed a marked difference in my skin w/in weeks of using vit c serum. I started using it (10% at first and now 20%) when I was 26 bc my skin was very dry, irrated, had sun damage, and uneven tone.
Many ppl, including my mom and grandmother, now say that I look younger than I did when I was 25 (i am now 30).
Maybe you should try another brand and stick with it until the entire bottle is gone....
Best wishes for your happy day! |

Shelley, it`s impressive what vit.C is doing for you! Have you been using Vivier vit.C serums all these years? |

Hi Aiva,
Yes, all these years! It is the one thing I would NEVER give up. I put in on every morning and notice such a difference.
I think the biggest difference is the texture of my skin...it is not so dry anymore.
How long have you been using it Aiva? |

I would chuck that and move on if you aren't happy. Don't suffer. What results were you looking for?
Just note that once you open the bottle it oxides very fast. |

IMO C serum is more of preventative product. I've used skinceuticals and celex-c in the past and did not find them to be sticky. |

I am using 20% serum from Vivier and I noticed the glowy complexion shortly after using it (maybe 1-2 weeks?). I have 3 co-workers who remarked at my glowy, dewy complexion in about a month. |

For the 60% of people that vitamin C topically works for, you'll see cumulative results that get better and better as the months go by..(a nice glow>>smoother texture>>fading of sun damage>>reduction of fine lines>>and finally the obvious signs of increased collagen.)
Anti-oxidants rule...
Just MHO of course.. |

I have to chime in, too. C serum is also something I will never do without. I came to the forum about a year ago and started in with Skinceuticals C+E Ferulic after having read the comments here and at the Melbourne Dermatology Skin Care site which contains valuable information about the benefits of using a topical C.
Here is the link:
http://www.treatment-skincare.com/Sunscreens.html
I saw my skin transform within 6 weeks. Even the kids at my school noticed that I "glowed" and looked fresher.
Since then I´ve gone through 2 bottles of Skinceuticals and 1 of Cellex-C. I prefer the Skinceuticals C +E +Ferulic from those two. I consider it a small investment for the benefits received. I am 47 though and hardly took care of my skin 2 years ago- so maybe that explains the dramatic results. |
