I just purchased some Renova to use at night and want to start using Vitamin C, since both are proven to help fight wrinkles. Exactly when do I use the Vitamin C and does anyone have recommendations on one to use? Thanks in advance! |

Many people on the forum really like Skinceuticals C & E Ferulic. It's what I'm buying after my current discontinued C formula runs out. Do a search for it & I think you'll be impressed. Good luck! |

kdd, here is the recent thread to help your with the choice of product:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=33666
vit.C is recommended to be used in the morning on completely dry skin.
You should wait 20-30 min after appyling vit.C and before any further product. |

So far, from this forum, i thought the most popular ones are PSF's & Vivier's?
Am also looking to try out my 1st bottle of Vit C serum. Hope it won't dry out my skin though. |

You should apply it on wet skin to better absorbtion. So, after wash your face is the exact time. |

wet skin? I thought skin had to be completely dry before applying Vit.C serums! |

I use it first thing in the morning upon rolling out of bed on dry skin. Washing your face can upset its pH balance, so if you feel you must wash first, wait awhile for your skin to return to its proper pH before putting on the C serum. I wouldn't use toner first unless you know that the toner won't affect the skin's pH.
If possible, you should wait for a while--15-30 minutes will do--before washing or putting on any other products.
Vitamin C serum has a proven track record of building collagen and mitigating hyperpigmentation, and it boosts the effectiveness of whatever sunscreen you are using as well. |

But if you use it first thing in the AM- before washing or rinsing your face, doesn´t it interact with the prior evening´s actives, i.e. retinol or AHA´s or whatever? I mean, although they´ve basically been absorbed during the course of the night, there is bound to be residue on the skin. Are you saying that it doesn´t make a difference, Flitcraft?
It has been drilled into me for so many years that you have to start everything with immaculately clean skin... |

I don't think it matters what you put on your face in the evening. Skin "rebalances" its pH over time, so whatever you have used many hours ago will not affect the pH when you use the C serum.
If you want to be doubly safe, wash first, but then you will have a wait between washing and the C serum and another wait between the C serum and the rest of your skincare and makeup. For me, I haven't got that much time getting ready in the morning. |

I've used Vivier, Diane Yvonne and now Skinceuticals. Skinceuticals is my absolutely my favorite...I would like to try making Kassy's vit C serum next. It gets great reviews also..

That's wrong!
For the best absorption, apply to perfectly dry skin, that has reached it's neutral pH..
If you don't use cleanser in the A.M., just dry face very well and apply your C serum.. (It's the cleanser that will leave your skin with an alkaline pH, and that's what you want to avoid.) |

I know what you mean about not having enough time in the morning, Lou! That's what has led me to putting the C serum on first thing once I wake up. Then I get up, make breakfast, clear the dishes, get things organized for the day ahead. By then it's time for shower, skincare and getting dressed, and out the door. That way I always have at least 20 minutes or more when my Vitamin C can be working on my face before I shower and wash it. |

Hi flitcraft,
It's only on your face from the time you wake up to your morning shower?? That seems wasteful, doesn't it. |

No, it isn't wasteful. Don't think of it as a mask that sits on the surface of the skin. It's an active agent that *interacts* with the skin. Studies have shown that it is active for up to 72 hours after application. So you aren't "washing it off" when you wash after application, as long as you've left enough time for it to interact with the skin. |

Hi Kassy,
One question regarding the effect of cleanser on the pH.
The pH of the Facial Cleanser of Neostrata that I am using is 3.3. Do you think that I can put Vitamin C on my face right away after having my face cleansed? |

That should be fine, but just dry really thoroughly.. (A dry face also cuts down the irritation, for those sensitive.) |

So do we use toner after cleansing the face at least 15mins later? Will it alter the effectiveness of vit c serum already absorbed? |
