I've read various things saying that it's not and that it may block the skin from doing it's thing while you're sleeping but I've also read other things saying that you need to apply a moisturizer day and night. So are night cremes/moisturizers necessary at night or not? I'm so confused. |

I used use one at night, but not any more... I'm a fan of Dr. Hauschka products and stopped using moisturizer at night after reading their recommendations (http://www.drhauschka.com/about/7-facts/). It's been a couple of years now, and my skin has been fine without moisturizer at night.
I think it's one of those things that there is no definite right/wrong answer. It probably depends on your skin type, life style, diet, etc... |

I think it is very necessary.
the skin will lose a lot of water in the night. |

Its a must for night moisturizer as during the night your skin start to repair itself while you are sleeping and alot of water is lose during this process therefore we need good night cream to keep our skin from the moisture lost.. |

I tried the Dr H method and Jurlique for several months (I think the Dr H caused a breakout reaction on my chin and have stopped using it for now). I found not using a moisturizer at night with their protocol at first my skin felt a bit tight but it was also winter. Later I think my skin got used to it. I think it works with their products because their cleansers are so moisturizing and not at all stripping. I think a lot of moisturizer at night goes on my pillowcase but I think a moisturizer or treatment that gets absorbed at night is fine as it does not clog the skin at all. |

Personally I think it just depends on your skin type. If your skin is dry/dehydrated then yes but otherwise I dont think its necessary. |

I think it is more necessary than using during the day. When I skip at night, I find my skin becomes even oiler-- as in I see mini droplets oozing from every pore -- as my skin attempts to over-produce oil to compensate for the lack of a moisturizer. During the day I sometimes skip in lieu of sunscreen. HTH! |

Thanks for the answers, I agree with most of you guys I think it depends on your skintype as well. I have "normal" skin and don't need a moisturizer at night. Though I would think going without one during the night would make oily skin less oily? Guess that's not the case though. |

I think this is a good question. For me, I use moisturizer at night only if I see signs that my skin is dehydrated or dry. If it's not, then I won't. I'm more about using actives at night to correct whatever skin problem I have at the moment. |

if i don use any moisturizer at night, the next morning my skin would either be too dry or too oily... so for me i think is better to use to maintain a optimum moisture level for my skin. |

I've heard this theory that one should stop using skin care products one day in a week to let the skin exercise its capability of adjusting and restoring itself. I sometimes do that during the day but not night since otherwise my skin feels dry. |

I use anti-aging or repairing cream at night. For me, they are the most important things. |

I think it is very important since you skin get most benefit of the skin care stuff during night. |

I myself do not use a moisturizer at night...just wash with Cetaphyl cleanser and apply retin-a .05%....I think it may depend on skin condition though. A few months ago I would have never dreamed of going to bed without a moisturizer as my skin is so dry...these days it's in much better condition and I haven't had to use one. I don't think I would want to use one over my retin anyway although you most certainly can after waiting a while. |

I think you should use moisturizer only on your drier areas. The way you know that is to first cleanse your face as usual. Wait about 30 minutes and note how your skin feels. Dry in some areas, oily in others? Moisturize the drier spots. |

My experience is pretty much the same as Bren's. I don't use a moisturizer at all during the summer. I do use a moisturizer occasionally though during the winter but normally I don't have to. My skin is in the best shape it's been in in years. I don't like to use a moisturizer anyway over my Renova. That may change as I get older as I notice my skin is getting a bit drier as I age. |

i do because i think more moisture is better than less... but apparently your skin because used to what you give it
all i know is that if you wash before bed, and again in the morning, the cream keeps skin supple during dry winter months and soft after skin is dried from sun during day in summer
so yes... i think so |

It depends on your skin type, the product and also the company products.
For me, if I do a facial massage using message oil, I may skip moisturizer at night. |

I think it's necessary however since during the night hours it's the good time for skin reparing, so only moisturizer is only enough. You could try some products with multiple functions at night~
There is no exactly right or wrong for skin care, as long as it suits you, it's good for you. |

People with oily skin don't seem to use a lot of face cream. One of my sisters never used any skincare products. And her skin is fine.
So it depends on the person and what skin type you have. |

Great question! It depends on what is in the moisturizer too don't you think? If you have a moisturizer with great ingredients, the body's natural healing happens when you sleep, you can take extra advantage of it! |
