Good point Claudia..i wsn't clear enough in my post (especially for newbies to facial exercises) that i have been doing Ageless for 1&1/2 years faithfully..and use Loulou's lower face exercises intutively as often as i feel the need to...
(although she recommends doing them only once a month...it's an intutive/experiential process with Ageless as well as with FE)...
but I have noticed an aging in my lower face this very stressful year (first time i've had any marionette lines for example)...so want to incorporate FE lower face exercises too |

Just an observation, seems to me that it's best to devise your own program based on your individual needs. Some programs have exercises that create opposite effects, i.e. one exercise for widening a gaunt face and another for slimming the face. Why would you do both? They contradict each other. Yet it seems the various programs encourage you to do ALL the exercises. Seems counterproductive, and doing too much can kill your motivation.
Also if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I really don't care if my face gets wider or narrower so I eliminate those exercises and spend more time on my problem spots. |

I see it as more like an encouragement to exercise the entire face so that you do not create imbalances. Like working your body out all over so that you do not over work one area of the body over an other.
But - for example - if all a person wants to do is crunches for the abs- the imbalance created in the back will not make itself known for a very long time.
Just like if all a person wants to do is work their cheeks - it is several months before they
see that an imbalance is created in the lower eyelids.
Or that working the lips exclusively - suddenly you have an over developed lower lip and it takes months to have it calm down.
But as long as you realize what is happening and have the tools (the list of exercises and which muscles are affected by which exercises) then it just takes patience. |

But why would you do an exercise to narrow a wide face and then one to widen a gaunt face? They cancel each other out. |

WHat I mean by working the entire face- is you work a few for the upper a few for the mid and a few for the lower and a few for the neck and a few for the chest.
Then you go down further and you work the shoulders and the arms and midrif and the abs and so on.
There are sooo many exercises available and changing it up is a good thing.
Working an exercise that says it is to narrow the face does not necessarily mean it WILL do that. Take a look at which muscles it engages. How it works them. Also the same goes for widening the face.
see which muscles it is engaging. For some people working a muscle that is for some parts of the cheeks will actually pull them in and give them a modelesque look -while the same exercise continued will poof out the cheek - each affects people differently - |

Lipper,
Which exercises are you referring to that are counterproductive? |

I'm talking about the Carole Maggio program, she has one for widening a gaunt face and one for slimming the face. I think you'd do the one that aims for the results you are trying to achieve, but not both. |

Oh... I'm not super versed on her program.
But if her program says exercise A is for widening... and B for narrowing... then I would imagine you look in a mirror, make an educated decision, and give it a whirl... as you learn your structures, and how you respond you would (IMO) tweak things to your own personal needs... Just like you would with any form of exercise...
It's all about balance and symmetry. |

I know what you mean, but your comparing the names literally. I posed this question to Carole once myself and she explained it to me. The face widener is for filling in the guant sunken in cheeks and doesn't make the whole face wider, but increases the filling in the gaunt areas. The face slimmer, doesn't impact that area, it works the sides of the face to apparently reduce sagging, and use the mind muscle connection.
Must admit that I didn't feel anything with either, but thats the way it was explained to me and it did make sense at the time, but reading my notes I'm now confusing myself. Maybe Aprile will pop along or you could post on the Facercise thread.
I think the names are labelled in such a way you would think they contradict each other, but there is a method behind them.

Hello ladies,
The face filler (formerly face widener) exercise should be performed 2-3 times daily to fill in a narrow, gaunt face. If you already have a full or wide face, you should skip the exercise entirely. The face narrower is now called face contour on the new dvd and you hold your mouth a little differently (as you also do for the face filler exercise.) Although it may sound contradictory, it is recommended that you perform the face contour once a day for overall tone and lift even if your face is thin, but twice a day if you have a wide or full face. HTH! Aprile |

Hello everyone,
I find all your stories so inspiring and I always think - this is something I should be doing.
Over the last couple of years I've started experiencing the perimenopause (nasty thing ) and my entire face is now going south with an alarming speed. I purchased the FE about couple of years ago (must be 2nd edition) and Ageless about a year ago or so - and I have not stuck with either . The lack of time is a huge issue for me and I simply don't know what to do about it.
I recently started doing Tanaka massage and I have no problem incorporating that into my schedule - it is only 7 minutes and I do it first thing in the morning when I get up.
Can you ladies tell me how much time do you spend daily on your facial exercises? Toby, you mentioned that you only do 3 reps of each FE exercise - how long is your routine?
Anyway, I so want (and NEED ) to lift my lower face and eyes - so I am trying to figure out when and how I fit the facial exercise into my insanely busy schedule.
Many, many thanks!

Rubby,
I truly live life in the fast lane, I have a commute to work...so I am up at early and out the door before 7:00. I do my exercises in the morning and it take 12 minutes. The new third edition is so worth it I can't believe the difference....exercises totally demo.,very motivating with Debs voice and Audrea's beautiful face demonstrating. I used to dread doing facial ex. with the 2nd edition because of the time factor and I was uncertain if I was doing all of them correctly. Now I am pumped to flex and the results are amazing. If there was only one tool that I could have for my face....it would be this program...that is saying a lot because I have lots of skincare tools but hands down this is making all the difference! |

OK! 12 min for FE + 7 min for Tanaka = ~20min. I guess, that could be doable. I get up usually around 4:15-4:30am and then either go to gym or work (more often gym than work), than shower around 6:30am, some time with my family, and out the door before 8:00am. So, finding another 15 mins in the morning is though, but perhaps doable (nights are completely out of the questions because that time is fully absorbed with cooking, helping my kid with school stuff, work, etc).
I'll look into FE 3rd edition.
Thanks Toby. I'll keep you posted. |

Rubby... since you already own FE, please feel free to let us know your personal needs and how you would like to fit it into your schedule... We can always help you design a plan with the program that you already own...
I agree that our 3rd edition is ROCKIN' ... but you can do tons with the 2nd edition you already own... and when you start loving that and want more then throw down the $$... If you haven't been working 2nd edition this whole time, you need some foundation for 3rd edition anyway... |

Rubby,
I do tanaka as well but it is designed for 3 min..also you may not feel the need to do it daily when you are doing facial exercises. I only do it several times a week...it seems like a temporary fix while the third edition FE is more permanent(with maintenance of course) |

Claudia, how do I ask for personalized help? Should I PM you?
Thank you for the advice. You are totally right about me needing to commit to something before I buy more stuff . |

Is there a link for Tanaka that shows you how to do it on yourself and is in English? I did see one video but it was in Japanese and she was doing it to another person so the hand movements weren't the same. |

Yes its in the Tanaka thread, and there is a link to a video with English voiceover, but this is a thread devoted to facial exercise. Post your question there if you can't find it. |

Don't know if this is what you are looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrceQS7qdaI
Half shows someone doing the massage on another, the other half shows self-massage, so you might want to skip to Part II (or even Part III, I don't remember where it starts). |
