| If you have to get made up for a special occasion like wedding, do you bring your own makeup to the makeup artist? Or do you use whatever they have? How do you know it's sanitary? |

Bira,
Hopefully you will chose a salon that you know and can have a reasonable expectation of cleanliness- there can never be a guarantee.
For my salon, that I've used for years, I have witnessed them alcohol containers and wash applicators. So I've not brought my own goodies.. |

| Alien, thanks for the reply. Do you at least bring your own brushes? If not, how do they sterilize these delicate items? |

Absolutely! I have a make-up artist and she will come to my place if needed, but if I have to go to a salon I would definitely bring all my make-up and skin care products with me. I have a very sensitive skin and I don't want to take a chance to try a new make-up (in case they don't have a brand I am using). As for brushes I would prefer they use what I have. I am sure they sterilise their brushes, but still I have everything any make-up artist will need and I also tip very well, so they are happy |

| I am fussy even about facials - some places don't use what I would want them to use. I wouldn't bring my own but I would always ask ahead of time Re: the products. |

My SO works in a salon with two make-up artists, and they use their makeup. You're paying them for expertise, and that includes color selection and application. Most have very, very expensive kits they invest a lot of money (and time) in collecting and coordinating. Their kits are their tools, and I would not bring my own stuff from home anymore than I would bring my own scissors and comb to a hairstylist.
As for sanitation, a couple things to keep in mind:
1) There are state laws that require absolute sanitation for any tools that are reused; a salon or artist can and will lose their license if they don't follow strict protocol. They have methods/solutions for cleaning the makeup AND any tools they use on more than one client. If you don't trust the salon you're using to follow sanitation laws then DO NOT go there; it's too risky.
2) Many makeup artists use disposable brushes, sponges and mascara applicators, so it's a one-time use situation. You could always call around until you find a salon that uses disposable items. |

I bring my own make up at any of such occasions, the reasons are:
1) My own products are good, and is suitable for my skin
2) For sanitary purpose. |
