Regarding hyperpigmentation - I do have one spot under my eye that looks like a brownish box. I lasered that area pretty well. The color is so light that I am not fretting too much - but it is there. I am hoping it will fade. I do not exfoliate that area.
I am guessing I am a Fitzpatrick II... |

| I'm with hydrogeogirl. if i would have known about the hyperpigmentation being a problem I have pretreated. I only exfloiate after the laser and not daily just my regular routine. Also i think I am more inclined to hyperpigment just based on my problems with it in the past. I'm just hoping it doesn't take to long to get rid of. |

| I am posting in regards to the palovia laser hope I am posting in the right area, just a question if anyone has any insight would be great. I can not use the mineral oil on my skin, It makes me break out awful.... any sugestions other than this something without oil? |

That's a tough one, since the recommended gel with the Palovia has mineral oil as it's main ingredient. I don't think water based serums would be good to use - since they say to use it on dry skin. A water serum (like aloe) might contribute to more burning.
Is there another oil that works for your skin? Maybe jojoba?
Another idea - use the Palovia with the gel that comes with it and then wipe it off afterwards. It doesn't seem to soak in very well, so you can probably gently wipe most of it off and then follow up with aloe vera or some other serum that works for you. |

| There are numerous conductive gels on the market - wouldn't they be ok to use with the PaloVia? I can't see mineral oil as being an essential ingredient in relation to the effectiveness of the device. |

| Regarding the brownish spots - I don't think it is hyperpigmentation. I think it is the damaged skin pushing up from the deep layers, slowly healing. I have found it goes away after a week or so of no palo via use. One thing I think has diminished that, and most definitely helped a great deal with the immediate post-treatment redness, is B&T Arniflora maximum strenth arnica gel. I find I no longer need quite so much concealer the day after a treatment. |

Any Palovia users still out there?
I'm about to throw the towel in on it. While it helps slightly with the wrinkles, I just can't get past the constant redness.
I used it the full month daily. Now I've done two months of the twice a week treatment. The redness and sandpapery feel just never quite goes away.
It's odd - the redness in the eye area seems to fade more quickly than the spots to the side of my mouth. Sometimes, if the concealer gets rubbed off, I look like have pink war-paint stripes next to my mouth!
Anyone else in maintenance mode having this problem? Any suggestions? |

As you know, I sent mine back due to malfunction. But whilst I was using it, I did find the redness and sand-papery feel around my mouth quite unbearable - and I think I'm allot more spartan than some when it comes to inflicting pain in the cause of beauty!
There's a thread over on SkinCareTalk on the PaloVia and you can see from the photos that LeeF has posted that she has considerable redness.

Thanks Keliu. I've seen the SCT thread and exchanged some message with LeeF as well. While I'm not as red as she's been, I keep thinking the my redness will finally subside and it just doesn't happen. I wonder if this constant irritation is just not good for the skin, especially since I don't think I'm now looking my best.
I know they say to keep using it otherwise you lose the results, but I might stop for a while or just do it once a week on low...still debating. |

The thing about having a professional laser treatment is that the skin is initially "damaged" but then it repairs and the results are seen some months later. With this, it's like ongoing damage. I was going to order another PaloVia but I don't think I'd like to cope with all the redness all the time - my mouth area became quite sore and I didn't finish the full treatment.
Shasta - can you see new skin forming or is it too early yet? |

I did get a few compliments on my skin after about 2 months on the Palovia. I was asked "what new magic cream am I using?". It was in reference to some of the spots around my mouth I was treating. Since that time, I don't see any further improvement in my lower face. In fact, if anything, it seems worse and my face looks more saggy.
I will say, that my eyes look good. Smoother and plumper skin there and the redness doesn't linger as much. Maybe they were right in only FDA-approving it for the eye area.
I did starting using an LED again (Lightstim)about 2 weeks ago but I don't think that would make it look worse. Or maybe it's just too much? |

There are a couple of Palovia's for sale on Ebay right now. Would it be worth trying to purchase one far below retail? I understand that you most likely would not have a money back guarantee if it turns out to be "faulty."
I guess this is definitely a "Buyer Beware" situation as both sellers have basically no feedback.  |

Yes, that's a difficult one - because they may be selling them because they are one of the units that are faulty. I'd be hesitant to purchase. |

I totally agree!
ETA: I actually emailed both sellers about the mixed reviews and reports of units being faulty. I'll see if I hear anything back. |

I went to that thread on SCT, and will definitely be watching LeeF's progress. I love that some of them are willing to put up progress pics, as it is great for those of us still thinking about this device. (I think LeeF is gorgeous and doesn't even need this, but I really appreciate her photos) |

| I am 62 and when I smile there are lots of wrinkles below my eyes would'nt that be counter productive if I were to purchase this laser without getting Botox which I am not a fan of and it is temporary at best. What are your thoughts? |

I've been using Palovia for the 30 days (I did am/pm on two different areas) and now on maintenance/focussing on other areas. Around 2 months' use so far.
It's true the redness does accumulate. At first I thought, Ha, this is nothing, as I only looked "stamped" for an hour or two and credited myself with hardy skin. After a fortnight the redness lingers. Last week a family member told me I looked "terrible" and asked what I was doing, so I took a few days off completely.
Changes? My goal is retexturising my bad forehead, acne scars and lessening minor wrinkles round the eyes. I can't say I've seen any "wow" changes at all yet. |

The PaloVia laser has found a champion in Dr. Christopher Zachary, chairman of the UCI Department of Dermatology, though many other cosmetic specialists are skeptical or dismissive.
“This sophisticated and rather handsome compact home-use device works,” Zachary says. “This laser can be safely used by individuals in the comfort of their own homes to rejuvenate their skin, albeit over an extended time. ”
The 1420nm-frequency wavelength of the laser penetrates deeply enough to create some heat injury to the skin, he said, which stimulates safe growth of new skin cells.
The laser was introduced by Massachusetts-based Palomar Medical Technologies in late 2010.
Palomar said that, in its preliminary study, 92 percent of patients using the PaloVia laser saw an improvement of one step on the Fitzpatrick wrinkle scale. That’s a nine-point scale, so “one step, while measurable, is a pretty mild change,” said plastic surgeon and blogger Dr. Thomas Fiala in his Orlando Plastic Surgery blog.
“Palomar has been pretty secretive about the other parameters of the laser. Obviously, the power of this laser is much, much less than an office-based machine, so the depth of penetration of the laser beam will be less, tissue heating will be less, and so the total effect will be much less. It might be enough to treat the thin skin around the eyes, but probably not enough to treat other facial areas, where the skin is thicker. It will probably be a good addition to retin-A based skin care and Botox, but time will tell,” Fiala said.
Dermatologist Dr. Dore Gilbert of Newport Beach is unimpressed. |

Another thing: using a Vaculift makes you look much worse, even if you wait hours after using Palovia. Pretty obvious maybe!
Looking particularly red and "stamped" after my Vaculift..6 hours after Palovia 
I can't say I see improvements at all..though a QVC review said it's best to wait 3-4 months for changes. |

Ok, looks like I have as much info as I am going to get for now.
This appears (to me) to be function like the dermaroller, minus the vitamin serums.
Dr. Des claims the serums are vital to the overall skin improvement.
