Hi,
I have been browsing EDS for the last 5 years, but this is my first post here.
I am an Indian female with fair complexion (in indian standard )..I have very sensitive skin and easily clogged pores. I use sofina sunscreen on my face and clinique solarmart spf 50m on my body everyday.
However, I now am not sure whether I should be using either of these sunscreens and want recommendation from you.
Last weekend I went to Florida. I was there only for one day - sunday..was in Miami beach for only 1 hour.still I applied sunscreen after every one hour on Sunday. In the evening, I noticed that skin tanned tremendously..I now look atleast 8 times darker than I was. I am very upset with this.
Please please help me out. |

Personally my opinion is, find the cheapest one that has the ingredients in it that protect you from the sun's uva/uvb/uvc rays and you'll be just fine. I think your spf 50 is too high. Unless you spend all day at the beach or several hours outdoors. If you are just going in and out all day spf 15 is sufficient. |

I'm very sorry to hear that your sunscreen didn't work out for you.
I don't really know what happened but here are a few thoughts:
a. Sunscreens don't protect against infrared rays...so maybe the "tan" you saw was a product of a little inflammation caused by the IR rays. If that's the case, the "tan" should be gone in 24 hours.
b. I think some members here in EDS have said that Asian sunscreens don't have as much UVA protection, not matter the brand, as European sunscreens. So I would try a European sunscreen. I think the sunscreen that has the best UVA protection in the market is Bioderma Photoderm Max.
Sorry I can't be more helpful |

I think it matters how much you already have on your skin as maybe the other creams are preventing the sunscreen from being absorbed enough or getting close enough to the skin to be able to protect it. I think a hat is the best. let us know what you find. the ask a derm website (can't quite remember the exact name but it is mentioned on threads here) is helpful. I have had that experience and it is upsetting as you think you are protected enough. HTH |

a good gentle sunscreen is sheisedo.
works well and goes on lightly
best thing is that it has good moisturizers so skin doesn't dry out in the sun |

That's a good thought about the infrared rays, Josee. Actually titanium dioxide does protect against infrared rays, but it isn't cosmetically elegant for me. Avene Emulsion 50+ contains it in some amount, but is a little odd-looking especially under foundation. Still, if you are on the beach, this looks like a good one:

Just some little information - Avene is labeled B for UVA so it is not giving best protection. Most L'oreal products have no UVA protection.
In the USA there is a list of an analysis that was just done. I switched to using LaRoche Posay, as I was using the Neutragena ones and they are not stable and have low uva. Most European brands are not listed so I went with that but it is REALLY expensive.

I am a fan of L'oreal sun screen. Either the European version of L'oreal Solar Expertise line or LRP's Anthelios line is the best choice out there, I think. |

Try SkinCeuticals Daily Sun Defense SPF 20.
Check out the reviews on makeupalley.com and see what you think. |

I use skinmedica sunscreen spf30. It is really good for sun protection. I didn't tanned even went to country park whole day (my husband tanned, he didn't apply any sunscreen) and didn't re-apply.
But the texture of this sunscreen is a little bit sticky. You may find that the skintone turns a little bit white after applying but it would return normal after few minutes. |
