I believe that beauty starts from the inside out, so eatting lots of fruits and veggies and drinking plenty of water are good places to start. But what about things that target areas to be more beautiful. These could be scientific or old wives tales, lets see how many we can list.

- Drinking Collagen: There are drinks in Japan that you drink to make your skin more firm.

-Drinking Gelatin: I think its similiar to collagen, except its more towards healthier hair and nails.

-Drinking stinging nettle tea: Good for shiny hair.

-Drinking chamomile tea: Some say that it lightens hair, skin and eye color over the years.

-Drinking green tea: antioxident.

Eating fish such as salmon and sardines, good for nice glowing skin.

Vitamins and supplements such as beta carotine, B complex, E, C (collegan), good for the skin.

Not a food, but "beauty sleep" is not a myth.

I have found Brewers Yeast (tastes awful) to give my skin a nice glow after several days. Due to the taste I rarely take it.

Being part Greek, olive oil, it's good for everythng, including the skin.

Agree...

Inside out beauty lasts longer and is a healthier way....

To name a few to eat or drink, I suggest:

Eating nuts(almond, pistachio, peanuts...):rich in VE, fighting free radicals...

Eating broccoli, strawberry, blueberry, cranberry, gooseberry, blackberry, salmon etc.: many antioxidants

Eating bird's nest: ancient recipe for Chinese royal beauty to stay young, claimed to contain collagen and EGF...

Drinking honey: nutrients good for the body and the skin

Drinking floral(rose, jasmine, chrysanthemum, peony...) tea: containing ingredients that help the body function normally

Eating/Drinking ginseng: antioxidant

Using virgin olive oil to prepare dinner: lighter than butter, and also full of antioxidants..

Eating avocado: many antioxidants

What is a bird's nest? Embarassed

Does anyone know if animal protein good or bad for your skin, or is it controversial?

Love, love, love the answers so far, thanks!!

BIRDS NEST SOUP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird's_nest_soup

3 1/2 oz. bird's nest (dried)
6 cups chicken stock
1 large chicken breast (deboned)
1 Tbls. Dry sherry
1/4 cup rich chicken stock
2 Egg whites
1 tsp. Salt
2 Green onions (minced)
1 Tbls. Ham (Smithfield, minced )
2 Tbls. Cornstarch
2 Tbls. Chicken stock

Places you can have this in NYC... I think I might try this:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/224858

-----

Acai Berry: I think its an antioxident??

Figs: Balance PH in body.

Yogurt: Fights off bacteria and soothes the skin.

Yams: Boosts collagen and tightens skin.

Animal protein is controversial. For example the skin does need protein, but some say red meat causes inflammation. Salmon is not thought to cause inflammation, but some worry about mercury.

Oh my...I have a weak stomach for exotic type foods - I'm a chicken. I don't think I could bring myself to eat this even for the sake of beauty.

I believe it is actually bird saliva isn't it? correct me if i'm wrong.

It's a beauty elixir for Chinese people but it's very pricey and can make you gain weight easily.

I'm eating wood frog’s fallopian tube together with pawpaw and milk, it does good to your facial skin and also your breast

and the price is much lower than the swallow's nest, which means most people can afford it

Eat organic fruits, berries and veggies.
Limit fatty and carb intake to whole grain and the amounts your body needs, not what you want.

Drink plenty of fluids, but not juices - fruits/berries/veggies should be eaten, not drank.

Have fibre, eat low fat protein - or protein shake. You should be good.

Oh and LOVE the SKIN YOU ARE IN!
