| I have VERY tan skin like a caramel color and always seem to get hyperpigmentation spots left from pimples. After I get rid of the pimple I then have a nice dark spot left there. Can anyone recommend something to help lighten these quickly? I currently have about 4 and feel they are an eye sore. |

| Retin A works for me for real quick fading of (new) pimple spots. I use it for antiaging purposes, but it has fared very well in the tone department. |

| neostrata's whitening gel may help, it contains PHA. But it may be irritating. |

I actually just started, usting some Renova, but only use it every 2 nights until I get used to it. I noticed if you have a pimple that is not healed all the way and put this stuff on it, it really dries it out and turns the area red and sorta makes the healing process longer for it. Do you notice the same thing? |

As your skin adjusts it wont over irritate your pimples. But keep in mind if you are acne prone the base of Renova is not the best choice as it can cause pimples. |

Thanks for the info. I am not acne prone. I just get breakouts every once in awhile. As long as I wash my face well I am usually good. |

Products with Hydroquinone or Kojic acid are supposed to lighten skin gradually because they prevent new skin cells from generating melanin which is what gives the areas their darker tone. Daily use is supposed to cut that process back so that new skin cells will have less melanin-producing ability and be lighter.
OTC products in the US for fade creams are 2% hydro, but you can purchase 4% hydro with an Rx, or in Canada as over-the-counter. Kojic acid is an alternative to Hydro, and a lot depends on the concentration. I haven't had experience with it to comment, but the Hydro works...albeit gradually.
Another thing to keep in mind - the skin you apply it to becomes more sensitive to the sun. And exfoliation of any kind will assist in lightening skin by sloughing away those darker, older skin cells. |

Product with Hydroquinone approx. 2% or Neostrata glocolic peel 4% to start will lighten the skin. You can buy this at the counter.. However, once you use this product, you MUST buy SUNCREENS of least 30SPF to protect your skin. Also don't forget to eat right ie. vegies, less meat, more fish, fruits, drink lots of water and sleep well will assist your body to heal...

Azelaic acid (Azelex) and Differin are known to help prevent and create PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). Also, use of benzoyl peroxide products to treat acne has been known to actually help create the dark spots. Apparently, the peroxide creates free radical damage which leads to hyperpigmentation.
For me, Acnederm for the pimple, C+ Firming serum in the AM, daily sunscreen and every few days AHA exfoliation help to clear these spots away quickly. |
