Do they work the same way? I noticed most of you here use retin a. Is it better than tazorac? |

Hi faeriedust,
I have used both and found that I get better results with Tazorac. They both help with acne and are good for anti-aging and they both work in the same way. I think Taz is a little stronger than retin-a. It basically comes down to personal preference. |

There really isn't a "better" one of the two. It really all depends on the individual's skin type, skin issues, and how that individual responds to the retinoid molecule and the vehicle/base formulation.
The number of people using Retin-A outnumbers Tazorac because it is tried and true, and has been around for decades; short- and long-term benefits and efficacy, are well know and documented.
Tazorac is "new" and research is still ongoing as to its long-term benefits and efficacy, especially, anti-aging.
If you are speaking of acne, and that's what you want it for, many with acne, like Tazorac; for Retin-A, it seems, in general, the most popular choice for anti-aging.
They both treat acne and anti-aging.
Tazorac seems to be the stronger of the two, in that it produces side effects easier and faster initially, because of its formulation - it contains high levels of ascorbic acid, which can irritate. It doesn't mean stronger, though, in anti-aging benefits. |

I think its individual, cant really say 1 is better in general. It can also depend on your needs.
Retin-a is natural a and tazorac is synthetic a.
For me I could never tolerate retin-a well but did well with tazorac. |

Depends on your skin. It's better to start with Retin-a because it's got a cheap generic (tretinoin) and then see if your skin likes that before trying Tazorac. I remember reading awhile back about Retin-a and Taz interacting with different sets of receptors (or something) in your skin, so that while they may have similar effects (cosmetically), the way they do it is different.
In my experience, Taz is stronger than even the strongest formulation of Retin-a. But it also worked a lot better for my skin--more rapid exfoliation without the irritation that tretinoin caused (and I've tried every formulation of the latter). But as with everything, YMMV. |
