Are they really as bad as everyone makes it out to be?

Or is it just like 'parabens' - stories just to scare consumers?

Actually for normal and oily skin, alcohol is something good for cleansing, and minimize the pores. However for sensitive skin, it needs some trial before use, or even need to avoid creating sensitivities.

I agree with the above member. Alcohol will dry your skin, but if you have oily or combo skin it may actually help. I prefer to be on the safe side, so if one of the first ingredients is alcohol, no matter my skin type I'd probably stay away.

I have dry/sensitive skin and any product that has any kind of alcohol in it makes my skin very, very dry and extremely irritated. I avoid it at all costs. And, to my annoyance, many natural/organic skin care lines are loaded with alcohol. It's usually the second or third ingredient listed.

In fact, alcohol is not a bad ingredient.
Of course for oily skin/acne skin, it can reduce face oil secretion and has astringent effect.
It is a good solvent for some ingredients of skincare which can stablize and help skin to absorb those ingredients.
I would not mind to use skincare which has alcohol but will concern on its concentration.

Yes, Alcohol is good for oily skin(wait... I'm not really sure, cause it dries skin so I think skin will be even more oily - so maybe it's not a good idea for daily use) but NOT for sensitive.
But I don't use cosmetics with alcohol 'cause after I use (e.g. toner) my face gets sooo red and even more sensitive. But as they said it's good for pores.

I personally avoid it but I wouldn't say its necessarily bad but it can definitely irritate and dry the skin, even if your skin is oily. I would say use with caution and listen to your skin.

I agree with the above-said, you`d better avoid alcohol if your skin is sensitive, it`s irritating and can make you even more sensitive, as to it being good for oily skin, doesn`t drying skin out make it produce even more oil? Rolling Eyes

Yes, you are correct, because the skin will produce more oil to compensate. You have to find that happy balance for your skin. I have combo skin and it sounds crazy, but the more I moisturize the better my skin. I moisturize a lot at night and use something light during the day.

my skin doctor stressed that for people with dry skin, we should never use products with alcohol.she in fact told me that i should not use toner at all. just moisturise after cleansing.
