I did a serum with licorice and it doesn't disolve. So I wonder what to do to disolve it. The instructions indicate that the licorice is water soluble, but it doesn't dissolve :/ (My serum has at least 40% of water)
thanks a lot. |

Angy....I'll try to help, but first need to know:
What kind of licorice are you using (there are several types)?
What recipe are you using?
What are you trying to accomplish in using the licorice? |

I have the white licorice powder and it doesn't really dissolve as well. I bought it from SAS. I always use it in a cream and i'll just little white bumps but I'll just roll them off my face |

You could try dissolving the licorice in a small amount of glycerin first, then adding that to your serum.
Glycerin is good for dissolving many actives. |

thanks all of you for your helpful ideas. I left licorice (got it from SAS) sit for a while in my serum. It's better now with some bumps, but it's much better. |

You could try to heat it a bit to dissolve the licorice.
You can use the bain-marie method to gently heat the seruum up to dissolve the actives.
This method will not boil it or over heat the serum mixture, but will be just enough, if you watch carefully, to blend it all together. |

Though I`ve enjoyed reading this forum for some time now, this is my first post.
I use licorice root extract in a homemade C, E, Ferulic, Hyaluronic, Licorice, and Green Tea serum. My husband is a chemist and he helped me with the formulation.
In my experience, both the white and the brown licorice root extract are soluble in water; they do require a great deal of agitation to dissolve completely, though. I use a small hobby paint mixer for this, and for the ascorbic acid.
You could also try mixing it with either glycerine or polysorbate 20, or a mixture of the two. This mixture requires little agitation to dissolve the powder. |

thegewt, welcome to the forum. I joined it recently too. Thanks for the tip.
For what purpose are you using licorice?
I'm using for some hyperpigmentation issues. By the way, I like your serum and I may steal your recipe |

thegewt: your serum sounds good. What are the proportions of the ingredients you use? do you have any formulating instructions for us? |

I heard that, with thorough mixing, glycerin dissolves licorice |
