it seems the older I get the less makeup I am wearing....even an expert makeup job just looks like too much and makes me look older! I find now I only spot treat my face with foundation(problem areas) concealor under the eyes....I have had to dye my brows lighter because black brows look harsh on older women.very light eye makeup...I do curl my extra long lashes(thanks lumigan) with the best eyelash curler-Shiseido, a touch of mascara to make eyes pop, no mascara on the bottom...it looks weird now! A touch of pink lipstick to the center of my lips, topped with a little gloss and that's it.I think the no-makeup look almost makes you look younger than all the goop a lot of older ladies wear(like red lipstick and thick black liner)

I'm 48 and finding the same thing true. Darker lipstick - out. Makeup seems to do nothing but emphasize the lines in my face. I still feel I need darker lashes though or my eyes look too tiny. I'd like to dye them because mascara seems *overdone* on me now somehow. Do drugstores sell lash dyeing kits?

I am 41 and I normally only use lipstick. I do agree with you that makeup sometimes emphasize the lines~ so I use good skin care products i/o the makeup.

I agree, less is more once you get into your 40's and up. I look so much younger when I use less makeup and I've always prefered a more natural look. My eyes for example look best with just curled eye lashes and mascara. Minimal liner if any at all and that's it. No mascara or liner on the bottom lid or lashes, only on the uppers. It really does make you look younger.

I agree with you on that...no makeup on the lower eye! There is a really good book called How not to look old by charla Krupp.,a fantatic book on how to dress , do your hair and makeup, nails etc and avoid looking old. However I did notice she wears eyeliner under her eye on the cover. She has good and bad examples of makeup...its a pretty decent book.

Wow! Not wearing makeup on the lower eye is the best advice ever! I find I look great when I first put the eye liner and mascara on but when I walk past the mirror even 20 minutes later...woa!! I started only putting makeup on my upper eyes a few weeks ago and I can't believe the difference in how I look. My eyes don't pop as much without the makeup but the skin under my eyes looks YEARS younger to me which is WAY more important Wink I even put a little highlighter under my eyes and it improves the youthful look even more.

Nope! I disagree with the not wearing of eye makeup on lower lid. Okay, guess I should say not wearing mascara. I think you should at least mascara the lower lashes, it balances the eyes look. So wearing liner along the top, a neutral shade on the lids up to crease and a coral shade under the brow, but lightly. Makes it look modern. Rest of the face concealer where you need it and a stained cheek with your natural cheek color. Clear lip gloss. Sheer makeup on the face is key.
