I have always had fine, limp hair but recently had a facelift and it's worse than ever. Most mousses make my hair feel like straw. Can anyone recommend a good shampoo and mousse that will give me volume and hold without that dry feeling?
Thanks. |

Vavoom Height of Glam Volumizing Foam ...
Maximum volume lift and body *Brushable styles with lasting memory .
I have to be careful not to use anything too heavy so I can get lift and over the years this product still rules for me.

I read on MUA a product called OSIS DUST IT, which is a powder you put on roots to give lift at the roots to fine limp hair. I have just ordered it myself, so will let you know. |

I would recommend Lush Big Shampoo. It targets just on fine and limp hair. This is an amazing product with great smell.
The following are the ingredients:
Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Fresh Organic Lemon Infusion (Citrus limonum), Fresh Sea Water (Aqua), Toothed Wrack Seaweed Infusion (Fucus serratus), Cocamide DEA, Lauryl Betaine, Fresh Organic Lime Juice (Citrus aurantifolia), Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera), Neroli Oil (Citrus amara), Mandarin Oil (Citrus nobilis), Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia), Orris Absolute (Iris florentina), *Limonene, *Linalool, *Benzyl Benzoate, Coumarin, Perfume. |

I knew I could count on all of you! Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have to get busy looking for these products. The Oasis sounds really interesting. I use several of Schwarzkopf products and really like them. Didn't care for their volumizing shampoo but the Color Protect and Split End Repair treatment are two of my favorites. |

Not to put a dampener on this product but it did nothing for me at all. I realize that any of us with fine hair probably also have other things going on as well. for me I have fine but thick hair and if I am not careful products that add lift will also add weight and my hair will just lay down and play dead So this product was a thumbs down for me. |

I have fine hair too, and have spend TONS of money on hair products. It's all on how you apply the mousse......don't applying it all over your hair just apply on the roots. Applying it all over will make your hair like straw. Also, don't buy a moisturizing shampoo buy a volumizing shampoo for colored hair. I also swap my shampoo's around a lot and I don't wash my hair everyday. Good luck it's all trail and error when it comes to products. |

Nizoral shampoo. It's an Rx dandruff shampoo but it makes my hair just full of body! It also reportedly counteracts the hormones responsible for hair thinning, so it actually might do something toward the cause of the limpness and thinning! |

The hair line I always go back to and now use exclusivelly is AVEDA. They have several products for volume and hold and I pretty much tried them all - and they pretty much all work great. They also have a couple of finishing products/fluids that make your hair smooth, soft and ligth (no straw feeling what so ever).
Here are the 3 products I've been using for the last 2 years:
*AVEDA - Brilliant - DAMAGE CONTROL with camomile - helps protect from thermal and UV damage and reduce breakage for all hair types
* AVEDA - Brilliant - RETEXTURIZING GEL with camomile - medium hold and shine for medium to coarse hair (i know this is not may hair type - but it works for me)
* AVEDA - LIGHT Elements Smoothing Fluid - infuses all hair types with weightless movement and shine. With lavender.
BTW, I have straight, fine hair cut into a layered bob that currently covers most of my neck.
And yes - I generally use cheaper, store-bought brands of shampoo and conditioner (such as Dove, Pantene, Herbal Essences, etc.). I've learned that for my hair it really doesn't matter which shampoo and conditioner I use. The styling products is what makes the difference for the look and health of my hair.

Thanks again, everyone! I'm going to try all of these products.
Already tried the Oasis Dust It. It does lift the root nicely but feels dry/weird. I can live with that. I find this convenient because it's applied to dry hair and can be remolded if for any reason it falls flat. Because of the dry feeling I think it must be used sparingly at the crown. Now I need to work on the hold at the bottom!
Will report back. |

I have been using this product for almost a year. I have very fine flat hair. I use it very sparingly at the roots and it gives my hair the appearance of volume--until I was it. If I put it on before golf and I then wear a hat and my hair flattens out--I can still look "human" by just using my fingers to fluff up my hair. The key is to use just a little tiny bit. My hair does feel odd--but it looks good. Several acquaintances have also purchased it because they noticed a difference with my hair.
I am posting to this thread because I searched looking for a cheaper DIY recipe and found this--I thought others night be interested in my experience. |

I tried the Lush Big shampoo and yes I will say it gives my hair volume like nothing before. My hair could never last two days without flat and lifless at roots, but this really works great. Thanks for the rec. |

I have heard the Lush Big Shampoo is very drying. You should only use it on oily or at least healthy hair.
Is that true? My hair is not only very fine, it is damaged as well as a result of too much styling and dying
TIA! |

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. It can be drying, especially if you use is frequently, but it gives me texture and volume. And if you use it before, ummm...bedroom-activities, you'll get the most awesome bedhead ever.
It's kind of pricey for what is essentially saltwater. Someone on MUA came up with a recipe for homemade surf spray:

Thank you to everyone that made recommendations!
Here's my update. I found the combination of two products that have helped my fine, limp, post facelift hair. Nizoral shampoo which was recommend by Fawnie and Agadir Argan Oil Hair Treatment. Agadir is like Morrocan Oil only lighter. I just touch this oil to my dry ends and it gives it body and shine. This seems to be the winning combination. If I overdo on the hair products the Oasis Dust It helps lift the roots back up.
Again, thank you for the recommendations! |

I think Shiseido TSUBAKI shampoo and conditioner are very gentle for find hair to use. I recommend the TSUBAKI hair mask most, which is very simple to be used (costs 5 minutes each time), and could make the hair easy to be combed and therefore reduce the decreasing of hair. |

Seems to me that there was a thread some time back praising Philip Pelusi mousse for volumizing fine hair. I haven't tried it myself, though.
What I have used, though, is Lush Big Shampoo. It is definitely volumizing, but I think it would be too harsh for damaged hair. Luckily mine has never been permed or colored, though I do blow dry it every other day, so I don't have a lot of damage. But even so, I wouldn't use it more often than once a week at most. I think it also helps strip away the miscellaneous hair products--mousse, glossing spray, etc.--that I use, so I find it good to use periodically. |
