I've had this brown spot (freckle) on my lower lip for a few years now, not even sure how it came about in the first place or what it would be caused from. I assume it is a sun damage area?
Late last year, I had that spot nearly obliterated and I was totally unaware of it until one day I looked in the mirror and it was nearly invisible. Not sure what it was I used at the time that nearly got rid of it but now it is back full force and it brought a friend along with it.
Has anyone else had/have this issue? Any suggestions as to what it is caused from and what may get rid of them without being harsh on my lips? It really does bother me as it looks like dirt on my lips and is very prominent even with lipstick/gloss. I have been using a product that has sunscreen on my lips, but with constant moving, licking, eating etc...I don't think sunscreen would be very effective at keeping the spots at bay unless I was applying 24/7. |

I had something on my lip that I thought was a freckle, but it turned out to be a 'venous lake', and is caused by sun exposure. A lot of elderly people have these. The only way to remove it was with a vascular (vein) laser. It hurt!!! But it was over in a second and it worked 100%.

Yikes...thanks for your input. But I don't think this is what I have. Mine are actually brown and not tinted bluish/purple in any way. They are directly on my lip (not on the edge) and they are flat and light brown colored. |

Ok, I found this on age spots (which is what I'm presuming it is):
How To Get Rid Of Brown Age Spots
A brown spot on the lip is called a melanotic macule. Although more common in middle-aged people, dark-skinned people, and females; they can appear in people of any age, race, or sex. The area needs to be examined by a doctor to make sure that it is benign. The doctor can take a small sample, a biopsy, to determine that there is no cancer. Like with any other freckle or mole, you need to watch it for changes in color, size, or shape. Some people want the lesion removed because of the way it looks. Sometimes, the doctor might recommend that the lesion to be excised or, rarely, laser treatment.
There are a few things that may help alleviate the spot:
Rub fresh Aloe Vera on the brown spots.
Mix one part onion juice to two parts vinegar and apply to the spot.
Mix two parts apple cider vinegar to 1 part orange juice. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and apply to the spot.
Apply lemon juice to the spot. (Be cautious in the sun.)
Take scented geranium leaves and blanch them in boiling water. Strain and cool. Apply to area.
Grind oatmeal. Mix 1 tablespoon of the oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of sour cream, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, and 3-4 drops of lemon juice. Rub on to the spot. Leave for 10 minutes then rinse off.
Rub with the rind of a watermelon.
Warm milk and soak cut horseradish to saturate. Cool. Apply to spot.
Mix horseradish with vinegar. Apply.
If you are out in the sun for long periods of time make sure you use UV protection on your lips.
Mix lemon juice with almond oil (or glycerin if almond oil is not available),
Try a solution of Cocoa Butter, avocado, peanut oil, cucumber, mulberry, bearberry extract.
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Get plenty of water.

This is the first time I have seen anyone post about this. Even though I am glad I am not the only one, has anyone used anything to lessen the color? The problem is, I don't want what's left of my lip color to dissapear as well.
Thanks! |

Glad to see I am not the only one with this problem and thanks Mowgli for the tips. I am willing to try anything at this point!
Lisa, last year I had the one spot that I had almost gone. I am not really sure what it was I was using that got rid of it. I have a feeling that it was Green Cream because I stopped using GC about 7 months ago and it's now back and with a partner!!
I can't see spending all that cash for GC just to test out if it was indeed what got rid of it....but you'd think since I now use retin-a at .05%, that would have kept these suckers at bay. It's frustrating because people always think I have dirt on my lower lip |

Sun protection on the lips is important. The brown spots can get lighter. One suggestion is Neostrata's Lip conditioner spf15. It has alpha hydroxy acids which can help to fade the spots. Some people use vitamin C serums on their lips. You can make your own (see recipes in DIY section). |
