I believe a lot of things are determined by genes. But knowing that will not stop me to search for something useful. There is always something for us to do. |

Oh! Say it isn't so! At the very least, I hope it skips a generation as my grandmother had very few and my mother has many. Dear God, help me! |

I'm the same as you in that my mum has many but my nana has hardly any on her face at 94. But I know it can skip a generation as my mum looks her age and people think I'm way younger than I am. So I'd say it can skip a generation for sure. I think my mum takes after her dad rather than her mum. Plus mum has never looked after herself. |

Don't foget that lifestyle can have a HUGE effect on your skin, speeding up or slowign the ageing process. Out Grandmothers in general tended to not holiday abroad and kept out of the sun more, ate more seasonally and ate less processed food.
All this may account for grandmothers having better skin than our globe trotting tanned and partying mothers!
Healthy diet, exercise and not smoking etc will also affect the rate of ageing.
My mother never wore sunscreen, smokes etc, looking at pictures of her at my current age she looked older than I do now and her skin more lined (I wear sunscreen and never smoked). My mum is still beautiful though.
So don't give up ladies!! |

Everyone's genes are programmed for aging and you can speed up or slow down the process by the choices you make. Individuals who smoke and sun bathe frequently in their 20's and 30's will look much older by middle age than their counter parts regardless of how good their genes are, because both smoking and sun burns cause cellular damage! |

Funnily enough my nana actually loves a drink or two and only gave up smoking at 76. She was always outside during the day playing lawn bowls till only about 10 years ago. And her skin is amazing. And she's English I might add. Very fair.
There's always someone who goes against the norm. |

My late aunt was Chinese, in her late 70's and barely had a nasal fold, no other wrinkles. No surgery either.Very weird....I think she just had such a full Asian face she never got wrinkles. |

I swill coffee, so that's good news. |

Chinese or Asians in general are very slow to show their age. I have seen very few Chinese with wrinkles. If I see a Asian person that looks old then I know that they are very old! |

Even though genetics is important in how your skin ages I am positive that your lifestyle plays a huge part in how you ages. My Father has four sisters and three of them have aged normally to poorly 2 of them smoke and the 3rd spent a lot of time in the sun. They all ate a pretty poor diet of processed foods and a lot of meat in particular. The fourth sister married a man who liked to entertain and serve exotic food so she learned to cook and all the food they ate was always home cooked with fresh ingredients, she actually had very sensitive, pale skin with red hair (which normally ages badly) but now they are all 60ish she looks years younger than the others so I am certain that how you live affects your appearance as you age. |
