Because I know very little about stevia, I was looking for information about it and ran across some references that stevia works to tighten the skin and smooth out wrinkles. It's also claimed to be effective when used on blemishes, acne, lip or mouth sores, seborrhea, dermatitis and eczema. Just wondering if anyone here has used stevia as an anti-aging tool. I've ordered some of the whole-leaf liquid concentrate to try out on my face. If it doesn't work, I can use it to sweeten my smoothies.

I haven't used it, but I did read about it in the book "Feed Your Skin, Starve Your Wrinkles". The book recommends using it as a mask, and leaving it on 30-60 minutes, then rinsing off. Let me know if you try it! I have been curious about it, but my grocery store does not carry the liquid stevia.

Interesting, I have a big bag of the green powdered leaf which I was unable to tolerate in my tea. So you think this would be something I could add to face maskes etc? Would be good to find a way to use it up or does it have to be the clear liquid Stevia?

Maybe I'll test it out to see, actually just realised I have that book "Feed Your Skin, Starve Your Wrinkles". You know your obsessed with skin care when you have so many books on the subject or products that you forget you ever bought them! Laughing

My MIL purchased a stevia plant. It would probably be too hard to dry the leaves to mix up a mask. Thanks for the article.

I like it, GirlieGirl. I think if you are really in to nutrition and skin, you probably will already know a lot of the information about what foods do what for the skin. It goes through foods that are good for firming the skin, moisturizing, brightening, etc., etc. I haven't really been all that into nutrition/skin, so I thought it was good that way! The book has about 100 pages of recipes, which I have not tried yet.

I wanted to post a follow-up on this. I ordered the water-based whole leaf stevia concentrate from amazon, because most references I saw said that this is the form of stevia that should be used. For $23, I received two bottles. I received it day before yesterday, so I've used it twice now. What I had read said the stevia mask should be left on the face for between 30 and 60 minutes. The first time I used it, I only left it on for 20 minutes. I was scared that it was going to stain my face permanently. The color of this form of stevia is yellowish brown, and although the consistency is thin, it is very sticky. It looked like molasses on my face, and I just knew I would never be able to wash it off. Fortunately, it did wash off, although my washcloth is stained. It dries very quickly once it's on your face and there is an immediate tightening feeling. In fact, it was one of the most tightening products I've ever had on my face. The second time I used it, I left it on for 45 minutes. The day after I first used it, my face felt tight all day, but especially by my eyes and by my mouth. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this feeling after facial exercises or using a gadget, but I sometimes have felt as if the skin right beside my mouth is being pulled (not a good description but if you've experienced it, you know what I mean - it's almost a tingling feeling). At any rate, I have had this feeling these two days since I've used the stevia, only it's been much stronger than I ever had with exercises or a gadget. At this point, I am VERY hopeful that the stevia is going to do more for my wrinkles and sagging than anything else has done. I'll keep you updated with my progress.

I am not sure, Frodo. The book that I have just says liquid stevia, but Skippie said in references she has read it called for "water-based whole leaf stevia concentrate".

They have a short spot on stevia, which pretty much just states it is better for your skin than sugar. The author states " it is a sensible sweetener for anyone trying to protect the skin's collagen..." There is only a tiny spot in the book about it applied topically , and in that small part the author states it can be used as "a facial mask to soften and firm the skin and smooth the wrinkles: Spread the dark liquid over the entire face, allow it to dry for 30-60 minutes, then rinse."

Just purchased some. There were several brands, most of them had other ingredients besides water and some had alcohol. I bought SweetLeaf whole leaf stevia concentrate with distilled water the only additive. It's very dark in color. It cost me $16 for 2 oz. at our local health food store. Love finding it locally so I can support our economy plus no shipping (although that is added into the price) but better yet, no waiting.

This is so interesting. First I learned that soy is bad for me, so what to do with all the soymilk I bought from costco? Now I have to buy stevia which I don't like the taste but not to eat it but to put it on my face. LOL Laughing
