I have been researching this for a few years and will eventually get one, but I read something startling recently. Some people who have had rhinoplasty surgery have complained that it left them with a hollow looking undereye area because of something to do with the nose being broken and changed as well as the skin that supports this area changing after the surgery...and then afterwards, the skin is looser sometimes (for example, if the person has a bump in their nose and it is fixed to remove the bump, the structure changes and sometimes the skin is looser because it's not supported by the "bump" anymore). I hope that makes sense. I know it sounds weird (lol).

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything like this. Sorry this post sounds so weird. I hope I put this in the right place..I know it's not exactly a conventional skin care question.

Hi Bella. I have not had a rhino myself, but I do know a ridiculous amount about ps. From my understanding, there is quite a bit of initial swelling from the procedure, some minor swelling will last for a solid year after surgery. Swelling stretches skin and tissue - always, the longer the swelling lasts, the less likely your skin will be to tighten up again perfectly. I would think the delicate skin around your nose/eyes would be especially susceptible to this stretching. Your theory I would think would be valid too in some cases, perhaps some of this can be dealt with at the time of surgery depending on the nose structure and what is done to it, a good doctor might be able to lessen this where it is not noticable. With the thin skin around these areas, it would not take much to cause the slight hollowness to where it is noticeable.

If you want to try to avoid this, I would suggest taking REALLY good care of yourself before surgery - months before. Exercise, take vitamins, don't smoke, cut down on drinking, etc. Then find a great dr who specializes with facial ps, even specifically rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is the easiest ps to screw up. Some doctors are absolute artists with this, it's really amazing. Do whatever you can to reduce swelling after surgery. Drink lots of water, keep head elevated, cold compresses/gel masks, maybe arnica montana or any meds your dr might be able to give you to help with bruising and swelling. Take care long after initial healing is over, don't slack off and get careless. Finally, if you notice any hollowness, you can look into dermal fillers, they are awesome with dermal fillers these days. I would make sure to discuss you concerns with your doctor. In my personal opinion, I think talking about this might make even a great ps pay extra close and special attention.

Wow bellaKai - makes sense if you take away a support (like the bump) you'll end up with tissue that is in excess.
You may want to check out makemeheal.com It's a site full of ps info and I'm sure you can get terrific tips there.
