I will work through the breakouts and get to the other side of Retin A, since it is something I want to stay on for wrinkle reducing purposes and not just acne. Although I have yet to get any of the flaking other than teeny spots where my earlobe touches my face, I just got into the purging stage. Wow, it's pretty bad. I look like I have been punched in the mouth and my makeup won't stay on as the Retin A has changed my skin somehow where makeups slide off. I need my face to look nice, and right now there is one blemish after another. Can I add BP to my regimen without messing up the retin A? If it's drying, that will be ok I think since the retin A isn't drying my skin at all. I have to try something. If I can try this, when should I put it on? |

Are you saying, benzoyl peroxide? You cannot apply BP and tretinoic acid (Retin-A/Renova) simultaneously, or at the same time.
BP is a strong oxidant and will oxidize the tretinoic acid and render the Retin-A inactive and useless. Topical oxidation is not a good reaction for the skin.
You can, however, use benzoyl peroxide in the morning and Retin-A in the evening. Keep application of them separate - at different times of the day.
Differin is the only retinoid that can be paired and used together with BP.

Have you tried slowing down your usage of Retina A? That way you can use peels (AHA), salicylic acid, on your days off. |

BP plus Retin A would be very drying for me. Maybe your skin can handle it, I personally wouldn't do it because my skin would be very uncomfortable.
I just started up Retin A again after taking a summer hiatus. Boy is my chin breaking out. When I did this last year I broke out only for a few weeks, so I am pretty sure that is all that will happen this year. It is kind of weird to say but I like to see the gunk coming out (I hate to think of it sitting there in my skin) so even though I have to deal with this for a few weeks, then my pores will hopefully be cleaner.
good luck and whatever you decide I hope it works for you. |

Lol, skincarefreak, I just got this exact answer on my other post. It looks like I need to try some aha/bha for now before BP and see if it helps me. I feel a major improvement coming |
