My sister was a heavy tanner and now has a couple of large brown spots taking permanent residence on her face. Which treatment have you had the best experience with - IPL or laser? Cool

Try a search for IPL in the title only. That should give you some info atleast on IPL.

Hi Juliemarie,
I've had experiences with both IPL laser. With IPL, I had a series of 3 treatments which did help with my pigmentation issues. I didn't have large spots per se, but instead, had a lot of freckling and "mottling." The IPL treatments worked pretty well but did not take care of it all. However, I didn't have any pre-treatment protocol or post-treatment follow-up and the hyperpigmentation returned in a short amount of time. Sometimes, doctors are great at selling services but aren't as efficient with the follow-up. Plus, these treatments were pre-EDS days, and now I feel like I'm a much more educated consumer when it comes to skin care!

The laser experience really echoes the IPL one.

Bottom line: I've learned that no treatment will be permanent unless you've got a pre and post-treatment in your plans.

As for me, I've been using the Obagi Nuderm system for hyperpigmentation for the past 5 months and am just about to the maintenance stage. Nuderm can be a rather harsh treatment, but it has worked the best for me in terms of treating my sun damaged skin.

Hope you find this information somewhat helpful for your sister! Smile

ETA: Meant to say IPL and laser in the first sentence. Sorry!
