Since I don`t have a health insurance I did Pap test in DOH. I was informed that the results were "not good" and I am suppose to come in a year for follow-up. And now is my question. Why do they wait a year instead checking immediately what "not good" really is?
TIA

I am not a professional, but that is a question I would be asking of whoever gave you your results! You need to find out what they mean by "not good". |

You need to go down there and talk to someone. Usually they repeat the Pap if cells come back abnormal, due to the many things that can cause a false positive. If the second one comes back abnormal then they need to take a better look at the cells and should do anything from a simple in office colposcopy(look at the cervix and cervical cells with a microscope) to a leep or cold knife cone biopsy in the OR. Don't worry, ok? If I remember correctly, as high as 60% of abnormal paps are false readings and a colposcopy is the first step. Let me know what happens, please. I am an OR nurse and have quite a few excellent surgeons I can pump for more info if needed. |

I've never heard the words "not good", and "come back in a year" in the same few sentences... They need to clarify... and explain why in the world you can wait a year... which is the NORMAL amount of time for a Normal pap! |

I agree with Claudia. Several years ago, I had a pap test which was not normal. They generally want you to wait 6-8 weeks before doing another one -- not an entire year!
This is your health we're talking about. PLEASE try to discuss your results with someone more specifically -- "not good" is not an acceptable answer.
As for me, when I took the second pap it was found to be normal. Inflammation had caused the first one to be abnormal. |

I had the same but was given in numbers do not remember exactly, called a OB/GYN who is a friend and he told me a number that low was easily caused by things as simple as tampon use, recent intercourse, spermicide ect. I was to return in 1 month not 1 year all was fine. I think you need some clarification as to what they mean by not good.
Hope all is well, and gets sorted out soon!

I think it's unconscionable for a medical professional to say "not good" and to "come back in a year." I've had a lot of "not good" PAP test results, but my obgyn refers to them as "atypical" and could be the result of many innocuous things such as Dark Moon said.
I've been having these readings for several years, so it's definitely something to watch, but nothing to worry about until it's proven to be something to worry about. |
