How long does it take to start seeing results from the use of a vitamin c serum (like the diy C serums) especially concerning hyperpigmentation?

For me, it took a while--I think two or three months. And the results are cumulative--some of my stubborn hyperpigmentation didn't lighten until much later.

This is a case where patience is rewarded. It is not a quick fix, unfortunately.

flitcraft,

Just agreeing! I think this is true with most products, even peels and microdermabrasion done at home will look as though you have instant results, but if you don't continue with them you revert back to dull looking skin! I think sometimes people tend to expect a change in a week when it could be a month or two. Just like weight gain and loss it didn't happen overnight and won't go away overnight.
Hope that makes sense to you!
DM

What vitamin c serums do you recommend? My skin has been looking really dull lately.

For several years, my go-to C serum has been the Cellularskin-rx one. It's extremely stable, meaning that it doesn't turn brown from oxidation. (Oxidized C serums do not provide the benefits of the serum and may actually cause skin damage, so it is important not to use serums that show signs of oxidation.) I have also used PSF's C serum, which I found slightly sticky in texture and it turned color before the bottle was used up, so I think it has a tendency to oxidize. Vivier makes a couple of C serums, which had a pleasant texture and worked well, but they are all much more expensive than the Cellularskin-rx. Lots of people here really like the Skinceuticals serum, but I have no personal experience with it. All of these are available on EDS, though, when you do order.

I have been using Dr. Kassy's DIY C serum with jojoba oil. Actually just the other day I noticed my hyperpigmentation has been fading. I have been doing the DIY serum for about 3 months so it did take that long and I've been faithful about using it everyday. Immediate results were clear and brighter skin. The good results just keep coming.

I use my Vitamin C super serum from ANAIS skin care, it make my skin tighter. I try to avoid it after a peel because it irritate my skin, but can also expedite the peel. I normally use it at bedtime and the next morning my skin feel soft and tight. I love it.

I got the L-Ascorbic Acid from lotioncrafters.com. It is ultrafine and dissolves incredibly well. I got the ferulic acid from skinactives.com. I got the vodka from my local liquor store and the jojoba and vitamin e oil from my local health food store. You can order them from gardenofwisdom.com or lotioncrafters.com as well. I got the sea kelp bioferment from ncnproskincare.com but I think it is available somewhere else too. At first I was hesitant to pay all the shipping from different places but it is definately worth it with the results and how many times I've been able to make it with the ingredients I ordered. It's been about 3 months now and I still have lots of ingredients left so it is well worth the initial investment. (in addition to all the other goodies I've ordered and found from these places Smile )

mex here is the thread for the various c-serums our beloved Kassy has formulated for us.
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=30503&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=800

I have been using 2 variations of the c-serum but have found pigmentation issue cleared a little faster with the Kuikui oil formula.

You can check here for the list of all the c-serum recipes - havanna has been working tirelessly so we can actually find all these recipes.

mex, I have been using Kassy's vit c serum with ha and now I am using the one with jojoba oil for about 3 months now. My skintone has evened out and I just noticed this morning that my spot on my face is gone. I swear it was there yesterday but has been fading slowly and now it is gone!! Using it daily and having patience is the trick. It is also really fun making your own serum.

Topical C does not work for everyone in getting rid of hyperpigmentation, but my opinion is that it would take at least 3 months of use to see results if you are going to have any.

do you guys make a like a week's supply at a time? I keep reading all this stuff on how fast c breaks down and oxidizes....but I imagine mixing every day would be an absolute pitb

can you use the brown/yellow color as an indicator for when this is happening, or does it get bad enough to not use before the color change shows up?

Thanks for all your help!! Very Happy

Kassy's c recipe with jojoba is about 1 oz. It lasts me about 2-3 weeks and I have not had it change color. I just keep it in the bathroom drawer where light cannot get to it and in an amber glass dropper bottle

I bought L-Ascorbic Acid & Hyaluronic Acid Serum from the Perosnal Formulator; Ferulic Acid & SKB from SkinActives. Vitamin E oil is just capsules from health store.

I think vitamin c could work at lease after 2 weeks' using.
Any secure ingrediant can not work at once.

I've been using Vit. C serum for about 5 months but I haven't seen much improvement with respect to hyperpigmentation. It does not get worse either; so I probably will continue using it as a general anti-aging product.

What cleanser do you use before hand? Maybe if the pH is too high or low or your not waiting long enough in between your cancelling out your c serum???? I'm not an expert just a thought.

I am using Cellularskin-RX and I love it. But I think JB's is also good enough and does the same work.

I've been using JB and Celluarskin-rx for a while, but honestly speaking I haven't seen big improvement with respect to hyperpigmentation.
