Does anybody think you force yourself to like something because so many people raved about it or because you spent so much money on it?

I do not Clinique cleaners, toners, etc.. but I do love their eyeshadow base and some of their shadows. I think we could all probably find something we like from most lines...and something we hate!!

A no-no for me is LUSH Sweet Japanese Girl cleansing bar. I thought that would be ideal to travel with, nothing to spill. In 4 days - tiny white bumps all over... clogged me up!! Blech. Yet, people continue to rave about that stuff on other sites. I have found there are just a few things LUSH I love but I really do love them!!! Very Happy

this is so true!!! i heard so many raves about drhcc as well as the dr cleansing milk, that i just kept using it, thinking i was purging... instead i totally messed up my skin!! Shock

i started sampling chrysalyx as well due to raves here and wish i had stopped after the first application- now i have little bumps all over my forehead and chin that im trying to get rid of Sad i guess my pores just clog really easily...

LOL, I guess we are just easily influenced!! I did not like the Dr.H either. I hated the cleansing cream but a lot of people really like it. The toner was fine and the rose day cream was fine but nothing special on my skin.

Oh well, I am sure I will keep trying things. I think that when someone else has such a good reaction you hope you will also!!

Creme de la Mer: $$$$$ and did nothing

Oil of Olay moisturizer: Cheap and did not agree with my skin although my sister loves it.

Estee Lauder and Lancome - I don't like putting perfume-scented products on the face!

Alcohol-based toners

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am shocked that this brand is still out there. Their 3-step is a joke. The toner is strong enough to remove bird poop on my windshield!!!!

Clinique 3 step Skin care - caused acne breakout, Christian Dior IOD - expensive and does nothing, Covergirl trushine lipstick - it's very drying

Biotherm -- I wanted to love Biotherm, but it seems like anything I try dehydrates my skin and causes blackheads.

I agree, I bought lots of biotherm products because I love the smell of products and the packaging looks great. I really wanted to love the product too but it makes me break out and it's expensive. Overall, it's a waste of money.

I agree about Cellex-C under eye toning gel. Feels interesting ("minty-like") going on, but doesn't do anything.

My no no's

- Clinique except for their anti-gravity eye cream, it really firms up those droopy dry eyelids and absorbs nicely
- Lancome is useless (just expensive L'oreal products)makeup and skincare
- Never liked Murad, made my skin worse
- Don't care for Clarins except for their hand and nail cream.
- Biotherm did really nothing at all
- Lise Watier makeup is like sandpaper
- Prevage is a really BIG waste of money and it smells like dirty socks!

I am sure there are more but I am trying to forget the pain! Sad

Oops, forgot to mention Jan Marini enzyme mask and cleanser. Did absolutely nothing for me! No breakouts, no improvements.

Clinique clarifying lotion ruined my skin, it took 2 weeks to clear it up and I won't take it back because the clinique lady scares me!

I hate Clinique clarifying lotion. OMG it's feels like someone threw acid on my face it burns so much. I can't give this stuff away no one wants it, and I have 2 oz size from their last bonus offer. But I do love their eye brow pencil - very soft when applying it, it doesn't rip my eye brow hairs out.

At the top of my list is Bare Escentuals MMU Foundation. I love the way it looks, but it breaks me out every time. I just had my skin completely under control and no break outs for the past couple of months and thought I'd give the BE MMU another chance -- guessed what happened??? This time I'm not taking any chances on being tempted to try it again and throwing my BE in the trash! Mad

Also on my "bad" list are pretty much all department store skincare products that I've tried such as Clinique, Estee Lauder, Prescriptives, etc. (The only one not on my bad list is Erno Laszlo products -- I still use the EL Normalizer Shake It).

I really hate Janson Beckett Okusil!!

I know it works well for some, but for me it turned the skin under my eyes into crepe paper. MUCH worse than it has ever looked without any creams/products.

Gah, now I'm afraid to try my sample of this! Did your eye area go back to normal after you discontinued using this?

Yes, it did, after about 48 hours.

Was scary at the time though!

I think other people found it can take longer to get over a bad reaction.

It's weird it created this effect, it was like a drying out and crinkling - not sensitivity/redness/burning.

Of course, on the other hand, some people love it ...

Yikes, well, at least I know what to expect. I have a whole 5-day Alpha Derma sampler kit that I've never touched, because I'm a little afraid of some of those products. Someday I'll give them all a whirl, but I'll keep this reaction you wrote about in mind. Thanks again for the notice!

Castor oil allegedly does, but I'd never heard that about emu oil -- Kris, can you clarify? I can't tell if you mean that emu is a no-no for unrelated reasons or not! Very Happy

My mom used to make us kids take a tsp of castor oil before bed every night - Yuck!

I've never heard of castor oil increasing hair growth on the face. How/where did you hear about this? I sure hope I'm not going to be growing a beard now after all that castor oil my mom made me take.

Unfortunately, I forget which thread, but there was some talk of this in one of the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) discussions.

I think it boiled down to theories that the ricin toxin present in castor beans actually kills the little bacterium inhabiting the hair follicle, and that little guys is somehow responsible for regulating hair growth...

But again, this is kind of speculative, and definitely NOT from the horse's mouth, haha. If you're really curious, I recommend checking out the threads on OCM, as I could swear it was in one of those.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, this was a while ago! Embarassed
