I am about to hop back on the retin-a bandwagon, and would love some input regarding which form of retin-a I should use. I last used Tretinoin mixed with Blender as part of the Obagi system. Since then, I have used products with retinol in them instead, and branched out into copper peptides (with success) among other things. I'd like to start using retin-a again because I do believe in it. I've been using it about once a week for the past few weeks (Tretinoin 0.05%), and would like to use it more often. My skin is normal, I do 50% glycolic peels (not within 24 hours of any retinol or retin-a), so it's stronger than when I began Obagi. When I was on Obagi, my skin was red and flaky for two years. I cannot go through that again. I've heard really good things about Tazorac, and I don't know much at all about retin-a micro. TIA for your help! ~ JJ

I use Tazorac now after having used Tretinoin in my younger years. Tazorac is not as aggresive on the skin (less redness), but seems to work just as well. Although Taz can burn your skin too very easily...just happens a bit slower.

I've never use Micro.

I used to use Avage (taz in a cream base). I might suggest you look at that product. Recently, I've been buying my retinoids from India, and find their .1% Taz cream works well on my skin...only slightly differently than the Avage.

Best of luck in your search.

Vanbergc, thanks so much! The Avage looks really good. On one site, reviewers said that with Avage, there was less wrinkling, redness and peeling than with other retinoids. Are you buying your Taz at alldaychemist? Have you ever used Renova? I'm not planning to use this every night, and I do plan to apply hempseed oil 45 minutes after the retin-a product, to try to avoid the crinklies. Two or three times a week should give me some results without going through what I did on Obagi. Thanks again for your help. Smile

I have used retin a on a 3 days on, 1 day off basis. The best method in my opinion is to apply the retin a, then apply moisturiser/oil 15 to 20 mins after....this tends to avoid the flakiness and peelin IME.
Also, i find applying it at least 2 hours before bed, gives your skin the chance to rehydrate with the moisturiser..... so your not rubbing already sensitive skin against the bedsheets etc.

Excellent tips! Thank you so much, Jedder! Do you wait a bit after washing your face to apply the retin-a?

Yes.....i always wait 15 mins after i have washed my face before applying the retin a. I applied once after 5 minutes and burnt! I have never burnt by waiting 15 mins.

I would also say that retin a 0.5 cream is much better tolerated by my skin than the gel form. I find the gel over drying.
