My husband to be proposed to me a few months ago, and now comes the planning stage of the wedding. I know I want a small wedding with about 45 ppl. I live in Vancouver canada. Anybody have an idea of a venue for my reception in this city? I would like to reserve the whole restaurant for the reception. So the restaurant would have to be small (since it's just 45 ppl) and the atmosphere classy (since it is a wedding)
Any suggestions? I'm stressing out because I want it in June/July, and the restaurant I originally picked out didn't work out. |

While I lived in Vancouver a little over 10 years go, I am afraid I don't recall any restaurants well enough to post a suggestion.
I did want to toss out a 'plan B' suggestion for you in case you don't find something that is suitable.
My hubby and I started out with a similar idea for our wedding (40 guests) yet we could not find a suitable restaurant venue (in Alberta). We therefore rented a room in one of the Fairmont hotels for our dinner and reception and it was wonderful. Booking with them included free use of the hotel as a backdrop for wedding photos and they are absolutely amazing. It was a very classy and elegant venue and the small number of guests made the price point very agreeable as well.
Congratulations and good luck in all of the planning and excitement! |

myamax, that is a good idea. The rooms at the fairmont to have a sit down dinner is really big isn't it? How pricey is the fairmont? Did you hire your own caterers? |

also i'm sort of unclear about the british columbia marriage laws.
We want to have a wedding reception, but my fiance and I don't need a ceremony. We just want to sign some papers and save the money on the ceremony and put it towards the reception. Is it by law in B.C. canada to hire a commissioner to marry us? Or can we simply just fill out some government papers ourselves? I know it's a stupid question
I've been contacting some commissioners in my area and find that they can be quite greedy. |

We did not bring in our own caterers - the hotel had some excellent items to select from (and their chef was top notch) As for price it is more than a restaurant would be...but the setting is much more classic and formal than most restaurants are. They have many different types/sizes of rooms to select from; give them a call and see what they have to say. We had the best meal (taste and presentation wise) there than I have had at any wedding and it was a really, really elegant affair. Small, but elegant.
As for wedding ceremony, we got married in Alberta so I am not sure about legalities in BC.
Hope this helps!
PS - the best advice I got came from a friend of mine; she said to rent chair covers for the chairs, saying it made all the difference in the world if you are looking for an elegant reception. Based on her advice we rented white chair covers...and my friend was right! |
