If alcohol is at the top of the ingredient list, can it cause pre mature skin aging?
If you have only one product that has alcohol on the top of the ingredient list, would it really matter and affect your skin? |

I think if you had dray, sensative and/or red irritated skin then, yes, it would make a differance for the worse. |

I think its super drying to most skin types, so as the poster above has said, its not a good idea if your suffering from dry skin already and I think its only used to preserve other ingredients. If its at the top of the ingredient list then I seem to remember someone telling me that the order has to do with the quanitities. So for example aqua is quite high on Nivea stuff and thats just water.

Skincare, first it depends on what type of "alcohol". If it is first in the ingredients list and the INCI name is: Alcohol or SD Alcohol.... then it will be extremely drying to the skin and can accelerate skin aging. Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol) is a very good solvent. It will dissolve your skin sebum and rinse it away easily! That's why your skin often looks powdery white when you put some straight ethenol on it and let it dry. You've stripped away all of your skin oils! That's why astrigent products (high ethyl alcohol content) are good for oily skin, or for stripping away oily make up. There is often a purpose for high alcohol content personal care products.
But, there are many other types of alcohols! For instance, Jojoba Alcohol is a small fraction found in Jojoba oil. Jojoba Alcohol is not volatile (evaporates) like ethanol. Therefore it will not strip away your skin oils. As a matter of fact, it blends in with your skin oils, so Jojoba Alcohol acutally helps to moisturize and soften your skin! As you can see from this example, it is important to know what type of "alcohol" is in the product you are using. Reading the ingredients list will often give you a clue. And all alcohols have different functions on the skin, some of which can really be beneficial.
Hope this helps,
John |

If you have any redness, or dry skin issues then it could be a problem. I have recently stopped using products with alcohol and have noticed a difference in my skin. |
