I am to new here to post links, but can someone possibly tell me what I done wrong here? On lotioncrafter dot com site under the formulations page they have a recipe for "Time Defy Facial Serum". Purchased all ingredients from lotioncrafter & followed directions to the letter. The only thing I changed was I cut the recipe in half to only make 5 ounces & I did use a stick drink blender as my stand mixer is just to big LOL. It turned out wonderful ....... or so I thought. I immediately tried it right after it was done, felt great, I even put in on my husbands hands & they were so silky & smooth.
However a few hours later it is separated. I have it in an airless pump bottle's. Clearly 2 layers so something didn't mix correctly & i would like it a little more "gelled" or thickened. It is about the consistency of .. of.... let me think.... well not as runny as water, but not even as thick as glycerine. I really like gelled or creamy enough to hold a shape on my finger when I pump it out.
I can shake it & mix it & it seems to work fine, just bugs me as to what went wrong & how I can thicken it up a bit without changing the effectiveness of it. |

Hi, Sexi. Did you refrigerate your recipe? If so, that can easily cause separation. If not, try adding powdered Hyaluronic Acid to a small amount of your potion and then mix that back into the entire bottle. You may have to do this in small increments to get the thickness desired, but HA thickens lotions and creams. HTH! JJ |

I might try the hyaluronic acid. Yes I refrigerated it, well sort of. I made 5 ounces & put 1 ounce in an airless bottle out of the fridge. Put the other 4 ounces in a squeeze bottle in the fridge & both separated the same. The recipe already has a small amount of hyaluronic acid in it. I might play with the 1 ounce I am using & I also have some "gelmaker" from making cosmetics I am going to order for an eye cream recipe I found. Wonder if a small smount of gel maker would make it firm up just a touch also. Oh well if all else fails, I guess I shake it each time LOL... otherwise I really like it so far. |

Yes, play with the one-ounce size. That's what I do to avoid messing up the full-sized container. HA works like a charm to thicken. You may not need the gel maker. I love Lotioncrafter - going to check out the recipe. Good luck! JJ |
