I think this is the key for those of us that are get breakouts from this. Using Castor oil in the mix and only doing the massage once per day. I started back on Sunday using the OCM oils and only doing the massage once daily. So far, I haven't had any breakouts. Yay!
BTW, I use:
1 TBS Castor oil
2 TBS Olive oil
1 TBS Kukui oil
I also like 1 TBS Castor oil with 3 TBS Olive Oil.

I was getting breakouts initially when I started the massage with Avocado oil. I switched to a mixture of Castor and Olive oil and the breakouts stopped after about 3 weeks. I only do the massage at night with the oils and then get in the shower. |

Thank you for the recipe what a great idea to add the kukui oil in. I need to make a new batch and will definitely be adding that!! |

In bathroom. It is always same colour (greenish) and same smell - no problem for avocado oil. Hempseed is stored in fridge (better safe than sorry).
I don't know about avocado, but olive oil is inclined to change the colour and coagulate in fridge. If not - then is not pure olive oil. |

According to Gardenofwisdom.com hemp oil should be refrigerated. The website gives the shelf life and storage suggestions for many, many oils.

I read Saeki book last night, she recommends to use cleanser to massage, but use the one with lots of foam. |

Has anyone, except me, tried doing the massage with Emu oil?
I am using pure Emu Oil, and so far no breakouts (even though I get breakouts from oil cleansing methods)...
and as I had a Lymph drainage cream, which was recommended for my son's sinus when he was sick, I decided that it should only help the drainage of the lymph during my massage, so I am adding it on top of the Emu oil, especially massaging it into the lymph nods and passages.
The name of the cream is Lymphdiaral, it is a homeopathic remedy, it says "for the relief of chronic and acute lymphatic conditions, including inflammations, infection, swelling and pain (made by Pascoe, Germany). I got it at a local homeopathic pharmacy.
So since I started doing the Tanaka massage with this base, it actually helped me to avoid breakouts and clear the face. |

I’ve used different oils and creams to do Tanaka massage. There’re either too slippery or did not glide smoothly.
My husband just came back from Japan and bought me 2 jars of Zogan cream which Critic posted the link earlier. http://www.ymethod.com/product/zogan.html I used the Zogan cream this morning, it did feel good. The texture felt very familiar but I could not think of any cream I’ve used is similar to it. After turning 50 my memory is fading…..
After 6 weeks doing Tanaka massage my NL did not getting any better but gave me lots of “bumps” around my temples and huge pimples which I never had in my life. I’ll see if it’ll make a difference by using Zogan cream. |
I know you haven't been using the Zogan cream long, MACrisis, but wondered how you're liking it so far. Also, I'd love to know what the ingredients are if you know, so I can look for something comparable. Thanks. |
I like the Zogan cream a lot. No new bumps or pimples (I use Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick and it works very well.). I'm sorry there's no ingredient list anywhere on the box or jar.
The texture of Zogan cream is a little bit like La Mer but not as thick or oily. During winter time it's impossible to spred La Mer but it's very easy to use the Zogan Cream. |

Skippie,
I found her products online but can't read to see if they list ingredients. Maybe someone here can translate this better than google..

Pictures of Tanaka, lotions and creams
"The DVD does not explicitly recommend a specific product. Ms. Tanaka produced 2 cosmetic companies. One is “ SUQQU ”, but she moved from the company. Currently she runs another company called “Y-Method”. Both of them sell different high quality massage creams. They are specifically produced for the purpose of facial massage. Both of them are good for the sliding and stopping of the fingers on the facial skin."

It is really heartbreaking to read what happens to you girls with all this breakouts and problems because of the Tanaka massage.
I am the lucky one, because I have only the benefits from it. I didn't saw neither one pimple on my skin since I started with it.
I saw some "wow" results in first days, and then nothing spectacular since few mornings ago when I realized how good my skin and face looks!
I think that I didn't change anything in my daily routine (everything the same - Retin A; CE DIY serum, and avocado or hemp oil mostly with some Avene moisturizer and eye cream) except I started to use Reversital microdermabrasion stick every other day. But I don't think so that it have to do something with Reversital.
My skin is very smooth, that's true - but my results from Tanaka are much more important than this.
My skin is much more firmer, face lines are so ...harmonious and balanced and soft.
I am so happy that I found out that Tanaka really doing miracle to me, and in the same time I am so unhappy to read about troubles you are passing through. |

I think maybe this massage works for Oriental people but my face is not doing well, I'm western face.

I find this comment a bit annoying. Race is a social construct, not biological. If you read through this thread, I'm sure you'll find that there are quite a few caucasians who do find this massage effective, as well as quite a few Asians who do not find it effective (and naturally, the same goes for those of African descent, south Asians, etc.) Please do not make generalizations based on your own individual results. |

I don't know what Bella meant, and I do not think the structural differences of the faces matter much in lymph draining massage (which Tanaka massage is about), but if you look at the bone massage, then it does matter.
I know it is a different thread all together, but this current thread has mentioning of bone massage many times (actually, I learned that one exists from this thread).
So when I looked into bone massage closely, I felt that it is too bad they show it applied to only one face type (which is, of course, Asian as the show was produced/aired in Asia). But looking at what the bone massage is trying to achieve, I felt a bit sad, 'cause I wish I could apply it to work on my issues somehow, but I do not know the right moves as my face is far from Asian type and has different bone structure to start with.
So in this sense, yes, the race or face type matters a lot. |

The Tanaka may address lymph drainage, but the desired effect appears to focus on reshaping the face. That's what the pictures seem to emphasize, vs, say, a reduction in undereye puffiness or a more vibrant complexion (which I would have assumed to be the major benefits of improved lymphatic circulation). So if the actual result is a reshaped face vs better circulation, Tanaka may not be as satisfactory for a narrow face.
The fact that the massage is promoted on a Russian site means little. Most of Russia is in Asia, and Russians of Asian ancestry represent a significant minority of the population. |

That could not be further from the truth.
These parts used to be a part of Soviet Union, but now are separate countries, and not a part of Russia.

Not true. See, for example, http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/asia/ru.htm or http://www.visitrussia.com/russia-map.htm
or any other map of Russia from the last 20 years or so!
True, most of the population is in Europe, and the majority are ethnic Russians, but the country is still a vast melting pot of ethnic minorities. |

sister sweets,
She recommends to use cream-form cleanser for mature skin, she never recommends any brand in her books but I suspect she refers DHC as cheap cleansing oil, as it is very popular in Japan and not expensive.
I am using Shu Umera, which is quite expensive. |

Hi all,
Let me come out of the closet. This is a very good picture. I have much worse ones. But I am vain and do not want to post bad pictures anymore .
And also I realized that brutally taken pics that show you from the worst angle are not honest either. The truth is somewhere in between the two approaches. Anyway, Tanaka improved my looks, that is for sure. About 20 people commented on my better looks in the last 3 weeks. It never ever happened before.
Apart from Tanaka and Ageless I changed some things. I dry brush. That is great for a whiter, cleaner complexion. I also take supplements. Especially Hyaluronic Acid made a difference. Being a heavy smoker I needed the replacement badly. Not everyone may have the same results taking HA. It is good for smokers.
The third most important thing is that I do not consume dairy and wheat. It cleared my under eye area to certain extent. |

Sycamore & Chanelle,
I am happy for you seeing result!
I send my recent photo to a girl-friend, she is the one who begged me teach her how to do the Tanaka massage. She said I look like a teenager, of course it's not true but still happy to know. My friend also send me 3 of her close-up photos, she has started the Tanaka in February, she looks so much better now, her double chin has vanished, face shape has changed and eyes are bigger, skin has brighten up. Her result is very obvious. Happy for her! |

I would like to share but not boasting : I had lunch with 2 clients (women), they would like me to refer speakers to their CEO workshops. I went to bathroom after my order, when I was back to table, I can tell that they were guessing my age. They thought I am 27, 28, no more than 30. Their mouth were wide opened when I told them I am 43. One of them even have a close look at my skin. As you can imagine, the whole discussion has switched to how do I stay young. They are very impressed and ask me to speak to their female CEOs. That's my favorite topic and I never deliver a speech about 'non-business' to the a group. The best part is : they will USD750 for speech & workshop (3 hours) and so.... my workshop will be demo the "Tanaka massage'. |

kim, if you are talking about the YouTube Taneka videos with English subs, then the Part 1 to the beginning of Part 2 explains the massage. The rest of Part 2 and beginning of Part 3 covers doing the massage on yourself and the end of Part 3 and Part 4 cover the tips on the massage. When you are doing the massage on yourself, follow Parts 2 and 3. |

The book recommends to do one massage in the morning, one at night. I have been doing it for 2+ years, it is still the only thing that I keep doing/using.
Again, it depends on people, I remember some said it's too much to do twice a day, or some said they achieve better result to massage 2-3 times a week.
I used La Collin massage cream (Salon formula). I have recently switched to Eve Lom cleanser, love it! |
I've uses this massage for about a year. I am Caucasian with strong bone structure and not a lot of fat to my face. For myself I find once per day or less about right. I use pure coconut oil to massage. What I did find was using light pressure in the cheek are produced better results than heavy pressure like in the video. I don't have a lot of lymph or fat to drain in that area so just enough pressure to encourage circulation (make the skin pink) is the ticket for me. Where this massage really shines is in draining my eye area. I am prone to water retention in this area and it's cured what appeared to be the development of permanent eye bags. The skin under my eyes is also tight and smooth now.
Twice a day produced great results for about a week then my skin started to looked stressed from it. So I cut back to either once per day or once every couple of days. Over the past year I have noticed an improvement in the tone of the skin under my eyes, softening of lines in the periorbital socket and a healthy glow as long as I don't overdo it. |

I just wanted to add my experience with this massage.
I'm 35 slim with good skin but noticed the lower part of my face starting to droop slightly, so I decided to start this massage.
I was doing it every day / or every second day for three months when I/others started to notice that I was looking very gaunt in the face. I didn't loose weight so it was directly caused by the massage...I got really worried because it looked awful and I looked sick!
I stopped doing the massage and now three months on my face seems to be regaining the fat around my cheeks. So ladies unless you have a round face and want it to look slimmer then I'd stay away from this massage....just my take on it.. |
