Vitamin A for under eye circles? Is there a cream/serum?

I have under eye circles and discoloration in the tear trough area. I've read in other posts that a few members mentioned Vit A for this problem.

It got me to thinking about the Vit K cream for spider veins that's been around for ages, kinda wondering if that would help, ha ha!! Guess not, huh!

So has anyone had any degree of success with Vitamin therapy? Or anything else? (using EES)

Hi annieb,

Teamine eye cream from Revision Skincare and Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue both have Vit.K to treat dark under eye circles. Also Jan Marini Factor A Eyes has Vit.A & K in it.

I have only used the Teamine eye cream of these three and continue to purchase because it works quite well for me in lessening my dark circles.

The Power K Eye Rescue seems to have good reviews.

need to be careful to use Vit A under the eye.

try a minimum amount on one eye first.

I'm clueless on which serums or creams have the Vit. A in it. Or is there a pure Vit A serum like the Vit. C ones I read so much about. What kind of side effects would the Vit. A have? Redness, swelling, peeling ??

You need to take a look at the Easy Eye Solutions thread under the Product Review Forum.
Lots of rave reviews for taking care of under eye circles and tear trough hollows.
I use it myself and can say it does work. (though I don't have much in terms of circles or bags to worry about all the time - just certain days). I use it for special occasions.

I'd be real careful about applying Retin A under the eye. The skin is so thin there that the Retin A might not be the best bet to use as it will 'thin' the skin (ie: helps to 'exoliate' by increasing cell turnover) Anyway - just something I'd thought I'd mention - it was told to me by a derm to not apply it there when I first started using Retin A about 18 yrs ago.

I do not agree with the info on Retin A. Yes, it does thin the top layers, but it thickens the inner layers, which will reduce/diminish wrinkles. It is still the only proven ingredient to help with wrinkles! If you are going to use Retin A under your eyes, you want to start with the smallest percent a few times a week and build up to nightly. Most of the studies done are for 1 year of nightly use, and then they back off use to a few times a week for maintenance.

riley- I'm only repeating what a derm told me long ago about the under eye area being treated with Retin A (I asked specifically). He said the skin is too thin there, very delicate. BUT that was a long time ago, and I haven't asked that question in a while. I may just ask again. (Seeing a derm tomorrow)

annie - you might also want to consider allergies. having them can cause under eye circles as can lack of sleep among other things. also, some ppl just have the tendencies (thinking Mediteranian heritage here)

riley - its possible I could get a diff answer than the one I had years ago. Hope I remember (senioritist can hit me every now and then!)

I agree with Rileygirl. Retin-A or any other retinoid works great under the eyes but you need to start with a low strength and start slowly.

I don't know anything about Retin-A working on dark circles but for lines and wrinkles it can't be beat. It just takes time. Using a retinoid under the eyes is also a great preventative step.

I've never had dark circles so I don't know what would really help with those.

Well, I can report back on what my derm said about the retinoids (used the general term referring to Retin A, Tazorac, Avage, etc) used under the eye area and she said..........

YES! Absolutely! Collegen building....etc.

In response to the thin skin issue her only thoughts were that the retinoids can be irritating and cause dryness (esp in thinner skin), so I guess that would mean to tread lightly in your treatment there at first.

So - I'm going to change up my routine to include that area from now on - chhzz - been avoiding it all these years. Embarassed

Yes foxe,rileygirl knows her retin A stuff!!!.I was on Obagi which has retin A as its main product among others,but she was a big help to me because I wanted to use it under my eyes and she said every other night until my skin got use to it and than every night. That was a year ago this week,and yes my undereye area did get alittle red and dry,but well worth it,I have no lines under my eyes now and I am 61 so am grateful for rileygirl's advise and encouragement,she great.

I've gotten good results from using Retin A under my eyes. I use an eye cream over it so the area doesn't get too dry. Also want to add that the new PSF eye serum has seemed to help with lightening some of the darkness under my eyes.

Boy! Have I got a gift for you guys! Happened to come across this I'd saved from a while ago about those dreaded circles.

Homemade Circle Buster

OK. For all you dark circled eyed gals out there. You asked for something to get rid of dark circles - here is a homemade Circle Buster recipe.
Go to your grocery store. Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (Knox, for example)
Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1/4 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one Tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute.
Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel.
Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.

I worked in a day spa & this was our "Circle Buster" Treatment. Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles. a homemade Circle Buster

The day spa where I worked charged $60 for this treatment (but they put rose petals on your eyelids), and it wasn't until after I quit, that I found out what was in those little white packets!"

There you go.....enjoy!
