Do I still need sunscreen if I use mineral makeup? Also, sunscreen says to be applied every 2 to 3 hours. What is the use if I'm just in the car? Thanks! |

I use MMU and that is enuf protection for me on most days. BUT, if I were out in the sun ALL day - then I would use something under the MMU. My MMU has SPF 30 - so it's quite strong. Most MMUs have around 20 and thats pretty good protection. But then, you have to have a good layer of it on. If you just apply lightly, it won't be good enuf. |

I always wonder how much we have to use to ensure minimal protection. I just bought another tub of my absolute favorite, Golden Light from Amazing Cosmetics. I noticed that there is no spf rating advertised on the box or on the site. I use it very sheer, with a spritz of evian or rosewater to set it. I love the natural, brightening look of mineral powder. I'm aware that my minimal usage does not ensure much protection, but lately my skin is never directly in the sun for more than a few minutes a day, almost immediately after application.

I never depend solely on my MMU (or any makeup I use) for sunscreen protection.

I also wouldn't depend on mineral make up for sun protection. For one thing, you have to ensure that you apply an even layer tjat can cover all of your skin surface (difficult with powders). And also I wouldn't know how much I would need to apply for "sufficient" protection (how many teaspoonsful?) and mineral make up are generally not properly SPF rated. |

Yes you still need to use SS. Do not rely on MMU for SS protection. You really wont apply enough to get proper protection. You need 1/4 teaspoon of SS for the face, you would feel like you were wearing a mask if you applied 1/4 tsp of MMU.
As long as you are wearing a stable SS I would not worry about reapplying every few hours if you not actively outdoors. |

Thanks for all the information. The problem that I have with sunscreen is that I have oily skin and most break me out. I just tried elta and liked it. Any other suggestions? Thanks! |
