I have started using Thayers Lavendar Alcohol Free Witch Hazel twice a day as my toner. It seems like I am breaking out more since using this product, however I am also using Retin A as well so it could just be my skin purging. Has anyone else experienced this reaction when starting to use witch hazel?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

I use it once in awhile as something to calm my skin after I have scrubbed too hard. Then I rinse with water after. |

Hi chellelynn, Welcome to EDS forums! I use Thayers alcohol free Rose Witch Hazel... Since there's no alcohol in either of this, it's possible your skin is sensitive to lavender oil. It can be irritating for some.
Hope this helps, |

Thank you for the helpful responses ladies.
Athena, do you think the Thayers Rose Witch Hazel would be a better option for me since the lavendar may not agree with my skin?
Is there an initial purging stage at all with witch hazel, or is there a better chance my skin irritation is probably being caused by the Retin A .1% gel I am using? I am currently finishing up my first month using Retin A.
Thanks! |

Seems to me I bought some cheap plain old witch hazel at Rite Aid or CVS a while back. I wouldn't buy it with fragrance. |

I agree, a lot of times you might be sensitive to the fragrances in many products! I would doubt the Retin A is the culprit unless you have an alergy to it, you could do a patch test inside your elbow 24-48 hours and if you don't react there you should know it's not the Retin A for sure!
IMHO

Thanks for the advice about trying witch hazel without a fragrance.
For those of you ladies who use Retin A, how long did it take for your skin to purge out the impurities and adjust to the medicine? So far at 4-5 weeks I feel like I am over the worst of the redness and dryness, but am still wondering if I am in the purging stage....??? |

I am looking for an eye make up cleanser and am considering witch hazel. Does anybody have any ideas on this? It seems not to be done much by checking out EDS threads. I just remember one dr I went to botox for using it to wipe of the pen marks he made on my face and it really worked well! |
