I'm looking for a curling iron specifically for bigger curls. does anyone have any suggestions as to which one works the best? I've heard bed head works quite well, any opinions? thanks! |

An inexpensive brand that works just fine for me is Revlon's with the 1-1/2" barrel. I think they are $13 or so and often go on sale. I have thin, fine hair and I don't use it for curls but to give my hair volume. Sometimes I only just hold it at the roots without rolling a whole strand of hair over it to get lift and the rest hangs straight.
My hairdresser was horrified at first when I started using my curling iron because he said I'd fry my hair. Well, I have silky smooth hair and I seldom use hair conditioner. The trick is to not blow dry your hair till it's dry. Dry it about half dry and let it air dry. If you wash your hair the night before, no problem, just use your curling iron on dry hair the next morning.
I use one of the lowest settings (5) and if I have a whole strand of hair wound around the barrel, I count to 5 and that's enough to get a flip or turn the ends under. You have to figure out what works for your hair. |

I think some has to do with the condition of your hair. Some of the better brands have barrels that are more protective than others. Usually the basic silver-metal barrels are less gentle. And the heat setting of-course! |
