I have been using obagi for almost 5 weeks now. The first three weeks were hard. the crazy peeling, the redness (as red as a cooked shrimp), the dryness, the itchness...everything i heard that might happy happned.
After the 4th week, things are getting better. although my pigments are not fading yet, i do find my pores around my nose are getting smaller, and there are several pimples that had been there for like years finally are gone.
but here is my problem right now:
my face, when it is not moving, everything seems ok, but as long as I begin to talk or laugh or anything, there are so many dry lines appearing on it......i look so much older than before, crying....
is it normal?? i read every post i can find on this forum, seems everybody is saying after the peeling, things should be better, nicer skin and everything...
but why for me it is actually worse.
I dunno how long i can handle here anymore, it is such a pain to look in the mirror for the last 5 weeks, and now, i still do not see any hope.
sooooo many dry lines, is it because it is winter, it is too dry to use obagi at this season??
please help me!!! |

It is normal and just part of the process, hellenzqq. Try to stick with you. You are in the "out with the old" phase and that is not a pretty time. The winter doesn't help, but you don't want to use a moisturizer as you are trying to bring it to a healthy state where it doesn't need much moisturizer. Stick with you, you are 1/3 of the way done! |

rileygirl, thank you so much for your reply, it really encourage me a lot.
i thought after the tough first stage, I could see the nice skin. I guess more patient is needed.
I have one more question,
I do use everything around my eyes, and now there are so much dry lines around them too. do i need to put some moisture or eye cream? or just leave it like that and it will become better at the end like other part of my face?
i am so scared these fine lines would stay there forever.
these days I just try to put a poke face on as much as I can so that I will not make the lines worse by laughing too much.
and my kids keep asking me, mom, why you are not happy.....
I wish it will be all worth it at the end.... |

Hi, hellenzqq. Since the skin around the eyes is thinner, you will see the dryness more, making lines seem like they are worse than they are. You definitely can use an eye cream (or a regular moisturizer around your eyes). Try to wait 1 hour after you apply your Retin A/Blender combo at night before you put on a moisturizer, and for day, apply the eye cream after all your steps and before you put sunscreen on. Stick with it and you will be very happy. After all these years of using a ton of different products, Obagi is still the only thing that has really worked for me! |

You're welcome! When you get discouraged, just start reading all the obagi threads on this site. There are a ton and everyone who has followed the program the correct way has been very happy with their results! |

Hi Hellenzqq,
Just want to add that Rileygirl knows her stuff and she is so right about hanging in there! It's so true about the "ugly" phase of Obagi; it really is all about "out with the old" and "in with the new." Nuderm can be a tough journey with a lot of ups and downs. Reading through some of the older threads here on EDS really helped me. I did about 28 weeks and am currently on maintenance. You will get through it and you'll be glad you did! |

it is hard when my skin is looking this bad. when I go out, i just wish I am invisable.

i have one more question here (this one bothers me sooo many year)
when it comes to sunscreen, how much do you actually put on your face? I know how much we SHOULD put on...but i tried a lot sunscreen, with that much amount....none of them looks ok after....too oily, too white....
do we really need to put that much? or if i use a high spf, then it is ok i put little less??and do you really reapply several times a day?with the dust and makeup....i just cannot rub anymore sunscreen on my face during the day.
please please help me. |

1/4 tsp is a lot and most people do not use that amount. What I do is this, I apply a good amount of the liquid sunscreen (I use a physical sunscreen, which I prefer), and on top of that I apply a mineral based powder SPF. It works for me! No I do not reapply my sunscreen. I would only do that if I was outside all day long, but for my regular life of in and out, I don't reapply. |

Right now I am using the 302 recovery minerals (and I use the 302 SPF 15 sunscreen). I probably will go with the colorescience when I am finished with the 302, though. |

Hi Helen,
I do the same with my sunscreen as Rileygirl and I also prefer a mineral sunscreen, too. I used the Obagi one until it ran out and now I'm currently using NIA 24. I also use a powder mineral make up on top of my sunscreen (Jane Iredale) and this seems to work for me. I was in the middle of doing Obagi last summer and with this protocol, I didn't get any new freckles, sunspots, etc. which is a big deal for me! I only reapply sunscreen if I'm spending the day in the sun ex. gardening, swimming.
You're doing great -- stay with it! |
