I have been using Smashbox primer but wanted a more hydrating formula. I would like to know if Laura Mercier hydrating primer does a good job of hinding pores. Thanks! |

It makes my skin smooth and pore less. I like the texture as well. Light and watery. |

Hi Starlight, I tried a sample of this last year and didn't find it that effective when it comes to hiding pores... I have large pores around my nose, so this is an attribute I tend to notice.
So far the best primer on MY planet is Clarins Smooth Perfecting primer. It's pink, fills in pores and once foundation is applied, near flawlessness!
I'm not so concerned with hydration in my primer since I use moisturizer beforehand. |

I also apply a moisturizer before hand but once the Smashbox primer is applied I feel like something plastic and drying is on my face. Does the Clarins formula also feel like slippery plastic? |

Not at all... check this thread in Product Review section for more details.

I use Clarins around nose and eyes, and Clean Slate by Tarte on the rest. I prefer Clarins, however.

I use the Laura Mercier primer and I find it too be good for making my makeup stay on longer and fills in fine lines pretty good so your makeup doesn't crease in them. I have visible pores on my inner cheeks - although still small and it doesn't really do anything for them. I would keep looking if that's your area of concern. |

I have tried both the regular and the hydrating primer and find the original is good for me because I have dry, flaky skin with an oily t-zone and slightly larger pores. I found the hydrating too thick for my t-zone, so I broke out, but I imagine that the products are quite similar. My skin is very sensitive and flaky, yet reacted very well to the primer, and makeup went on beautifully rather than settling into fine lines or revealing dry patches, which happens with other primers. |
