I am wondering if anyone knows where I could purchase an occlusive dressing for my face...this would be used in conjunction with numbing creams or moisturizers to temporarily seal in topicals?
I am currently using Saran Wrap...but it doesn't work so well.
Seems like somebody somewhere must make a product for this - likely used in med spas.
Thanks, BF |

Would a shower cap work? I use that for lotion masks in the bath. |

Have you considered using cling wrap?
That's what my skin doc uses on my face for numbing creams. |

This would be a good thing to know.
I'm sure you've tried this ... Did you google it BF? Or call a spa where they use such things and maybe they can point you in the right direction. |

This 2" surgical tape is transparent and occlusive. It easily tears for custom fitting;
http://www.allegromedical.com/wound-care-c541/transpore-clear-plastic-perforated-tape-2-wide-p190974.html
It will easily *rest* on a wet surface, but would need a small dry spot to really adhere well, at the top and bottom of the application area.
ETA: I just saw a statement that say's it's 'porous', but I use this tape, and don't find that to be really be the case. Anyway, search the site for other 'occlusive' dressings. |

Every doctor and clinic that I've been too all use cling wrap. What didn't you like about it? Maybe it was the way you put it on. I find it's best to cut the cling wrap into small pieces and just cover the face by overlapping it. |

Personally, I find the cling wrap to be too flimsy and it seems to slide around and slide off too easily...
Offline, some of us have discussed the silicone sheets that are used to cover healing scars...I think I will try them and use scissors to cut particular shapes suited to certain areas of the face, neck and hands.
For example, small half moons for the undereye area and a bigger rectangle sheet for the forehead, etc. etc.
Thoughts? BF |

I'm over the whole numbing cream and cling wrap thing. I'm now just using one of those lunchbox freezer cooler blocks and holding that on the face before and after rolling. |

I have some of the silcone sheets, but I'm not sure how they would stay attached after you put on numbing cream?? |

Well, I'm only using a 0.5mm at the moment. However, when I was using my 1.5mm I never found the numbing cream to be effective enough anyway. Give it a try with the ice block - just do one small section at a time. |

they are quite adhesive on at least one side and when I used them for scar healing, they "stuck" fairly well....will provide a report as to how they work with rolling.

So are you staying that you are going to smear some numbing cream on and then put the silicone sheet on top of the thick layer of numbing cream? (I'm just trying to get the visual of what you are trying to do) |

Ok...so you are expecting the silicone to sit on top of the cream (vs stick to your skin). In this case, the stickiness of the silicone really won't matter, because it will be coming in contact with the numbing agent instead of your skin.
But I can see where it could possibly cause the skin to become more numb that the numbing agent by itself...just like a thicker cling wrap. However, I doubt it will perform that much better for numbing, especially at the high price point. My 4" x 4" (tiny!) piece was about $23 with shipping.
Let us know how it works out. |

Here's what I do and I hope it makes sense... I cut the entire roll of saran wrap in half, with a box cutter, so each roll is around 4" wide or so. I start horizontally with the top half of my face covering nose to forehead, wrap it around the back of my head (like bandaging), extending to the face again, covering from upper lip to chin and neck. This way, only the nostrils are exposed and every other inch of skin is covered, and where the saran wrap kind of overlaps on both sides of the cheeks, it really sticks to itself so that the entire sheet of plastic stays in place. Hope that helps! |

I just thought of something else....what about one of those face shaped gel masks they use after plastic surgery?
That would hold the stuff in place, and you would need of course, to wipe it clean after each use.

I can't help feeling that you're over-thinking all of this. The first time I had an IPL treatment, I applied Emla Cream and cut the clingwrap into five pieces to fit my face - one for the forehead, two for the cheeks, one for the chin and one over the nose. Then I had to drive for an hour with this on - it basically didn't budge. If you're doing this at home, couldn't you just apply the stuff and then lie down for a while until the face is numb? You shouldn't have a problem with it all falling off. |

Exactly like a mummy! And pics floating around the www would be just too humiliating. I'm actually so embarrassed when I do this, that I wait till my SO falls into a deep sleep before I do it. I could not endure the taunts and laughs... |
