Just wondering if any of you use Renova rather than Retin-A with the Obagi Nu-derm system. My skin is very dry and sensitive and I have always had trouble with Retin-A. I have been able to use Renova (it peels me and burns me up like Retin-A does with others). I know that it is not supposed to work with the blender but I have seen people post that they use Renova and blender.

Yes, I used Renova with the Obagi Nu Derm System and had fabulous results.

Renova is basically Retin-A in a more emollient base so there is really no reason why it would not work.
The actives are the same.
I still experienced alot of dryness doing the Nu Derm regimen while using Renova. I just took it a bit slower and had to use a moisturizer occasionally.

Kelil, how long did you do the Obagi Nuderm? I started on it a month ago but with the tretinoin gel. Apparently, I shouldn't be using the gel form. I would have to go get another rx from my family doctor who knows nothing about the Obagi or buy online although I am not too sure of the quality I would get.

Abbytoalbert, On the skincare-md website, they suggest the Retrinal cream as an alternative to tretinoin for those who cannot tolerate the side effects of tretinoin. This is a non prescription medication so it would be weaker than tretinoin (one step away from being converted to retinoic acid). Maybe you can look in to that as an alternative.

I did the Obagi Nuderm regimen for 18 weeks using Renova. I buy my Renova or Retin-A from medsmex.com. I have for a long time now.

Alldaychemist.com also sells Retin-A but not Renova.
I just prefer to buy my retinoids from Medsmex since they sell brand name Renova & Retin-A and I like the quality of the retinoid products better than from Alldaychemist.
I've tried the Retin-A and Tazorac from Alldaychemist and while I feel it's a good product I prefer buying from Medsmex.

It's all personal preference.
Medsmex recently came out with generic Renova for $9.50 a tube. I'm trying the new generic out right now. So far I really like it.

I tend to use sometimes use Retin-A during the summer and Renova during the winter.

I was originally prescribed Renova from my dermatologist. After the first tube from my derm I started buying it online from Medsmex.
That was a few years ago. I see no difference in the Renova or Retin-A I can get here from my derm by prescription than I do from the products I buy from Medsmex.

If you feel more comfortable getting your Retin-A from your derm than you should keep doing so.

Did your derm put you on the gel because you have oily, acne prone skin?

The gel can be very drying when combined with the Obagi Nu Derm products.

Even Renova which is one of the most emollient retinoids is still drying combined with Obagi Nu Derm.

I don't see why you couldn't keep using the Retin-A gel. It may not mix well with the Blender but you could try applying it first and then the Blender afterwards if they don't mix well.

The gel should still work. I didn't see any major results with Obagi Nu Derm until the end of my second month. Keep it up and stick with it. Some people need to stay on Nu Derm for a full 6 months to get the full result. It all depends on your skin.

I had just emailed my cousin who's a derm in the Philippines where apparently they use Obagi a lot and she said that she has prescribed the retacnyl cream to her patients just because it is tolerated better, it is tret in an emollient base as well. Yeah I guess tret is tret and it should have the same action whether it is cream or gel.

Kelil, I wasnt prescribed by a derm here, I got the Obagi and just asked my family dr to give me a rx for tretinoin and because I didn't know that the cream was preferred, I didn't specifically ask him for the cream. He just wrote down tret gel.

I will have to look at medsmex, alldaychemist doesn't ship to Canada. I could probably get it from the Philippines through family as well although that just takes longer.

Thanks for your help!
